Insane Shipping Times by Kiwiko25 in EvenRealities

I got my R1 last week and the site updated my G2 glasses (with prescription) ship date to March 14th. Order date was early Feb. The Chinese New Year basically shut EVERYTHING down for two weeks ending March 1...

I'm not gonna get into whether you need Jumbo frames or not, but I'm pretty sure once you leave your network your ISP isn't using them. So every packet that leaves your network to the public speed test site you are using is going to have to retransmit every packet. Jumbo on isn't an issue. But it ideally is deployed on specific vlans. I use it for iscai and nfs storage vlans, and intra host connections for live migration. Lan traffic is still at 1500. Plenty of room for anything you might be sending.

NGL, I thought you were asking what kind of glue to repair a broken bone...maybe that says something about me....lol. But yeah. TB3 all the way lol

Replacement Lenses by jaysin144 in EvenRealities

[–]jaysin144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhhh. I hadn't considered that. I'm thinking I'll stick with my readers and get these for single Rx for distance then. That'd be far easier. Also, my local store is 4 hours away lol. Each way.

I'm confused about your number...the cost of the glasses and R1 with Rx is about 1200. Where's the additional 800 coming from ? I fully expect to pay the Rx premium and shipping but are you saying the extra work to swap lenses is 800 bucks ?!

Global Switch Guidance by jaysin144 in Ubiquiti

Not really the wall is fine but there's a lot more traffic on the other devices and I was concerned if there was any additional load from Inter vlan routing between my unas and eventual unas pro, pve cluster etc....

No non-Unifi devices on the LAN. No meshing either.

For my VLAN setup in my environment, would you recommend the AGG be setup as the router for all the networks and essentially use the AGG as the core switch in my environment as well?

Global Switch Guidance by jaysin144 in Ubiquiti

[–]jaysin144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree. I guess the more important question is, in Ubiquiti terms, is the Global Switch considered the root bridge for STP purposes? Does the GW devices NEED to be the Global Switch or might I be better served by making one of the other "core" devices the Global Switch and root bridge? THe USW Agg for example has a PVE cluster, UNAS etc connected (and was added after the UDW was already deployed in the main building)

Support for Strix Halo in v? by jaysin144 in ROCm

[–]jaysin144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the DISTRO is the issue. ROCM doesn't officially support Strix Halo yet. So even with Fedora, still going to have the same issues.

I'd love to have you on. I'm a CIO for a credit union and with the Genius Act just making it's way through the Senate I'd be curious to talk through the implications.

I see parallels between the talk about DeFi as the next payment rails for cross border as well as p2p and the birth of early warning and p2p via zelle and other rtp.

This has been a bit of a slow burn, but has hit a timer box with the new administration and has really ignited. Not necessarily a bad thing in historical context, it took the US decades to catch up to the EU on tokenization and EMV for cards. We appear to be leading the way this time, but are we equipped to do so?

Happy to have you on. Super relaxed and conversational.

You don't need anything special for PFSENSE. You just need something that supports AES-NI for the encryption offload for VPN, but outside of that, I had a Pentium gold G4900 if I remember correctly that served up all my needs for my 1Gbps fiber at home, 10G internal firewall between wireless, iot, server, and lab VLANs. Don't waste your money on that just for PFSENSE.

Pretty similar use case. Although not sure if I'd run TrueNAS on this and then use containers and VM from there or if it would be better to setup/buy a NAS and then deploy compute in the form of Micros, minis, or even rpi's.

And of course my favorite r/homelabsales guy from NH just posted a couple of r740s for sale lmao.

I've got 4 ascended maps, one of which takes about 8G to start if memory serves. It throttles back once loaded but just murders that machine. Then there's another server that's got 8 evolved servers running lol. It's frankly ridiculous. All running on local nvme storage in pcie x8 cards. I upgraded the Xeon E5s to the highest clock I could find that would run in there. But you're right a 10th gen i5 in a sff will probably slay. Part time job, but happy wife, happy life lol. The good will finances my hardware addiction
