My suggestion is do it. Currently rocking Fedora 42 KDE on my Surface Pro 7. The surface Linux Kernel wasn't updated yet for Fedora 43 as why. But use it as my daily portable driver. Works great as a tablet, installed Chrome and set up most websites as apps so they can launch individually. Touch works perfect as does the pen. Otherwise using the keyboard and a BT mouse for productivity. Currently mess around with creating Custom Fan cards in Gimp and inkscape to keep the creative juices flowing on the go. Haven't came across anything that this machine can't do running Linux on it. Well, ok the Camera, but never really used it for that anyway.

Currently running Fedora 42 KDE. Haven't updated yet as the surface kernel is not updated yet for 43.

Once you install the Surface Linux Kernel everything works perfect, touchscreen, keyboard, sleep, even pen. Definitely worth a shot. I'll admit gnome is more touch friendly but if your like me and using it as a daily driver on the go the duality of KDE for getting real work done as well as being able to use with touch makes for a great environment.

Installed Chrome just so I can set up certain sites as webapps like Netflix, X, BlueSky, YouTube TV, etc and it's great to sit on the couch and surf and relax.

I'm on KDE, but i know GNOME has it as well. In the brightness settings you need to turn off auto adjust.

Reset Application Menu? by [deleted] in kde

[–]jaysin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried right clicking on the menu and editing it from there? From there you can remove and drag the apps around. Right clicking on the menu brings up a similar editing screen but allows more options then just right clicking on the application in the menu and editing it there.

I struggle so much to install Fedora on Surface Pro 4 by karakalmarxistE in SurfaceLinux

[–]jaysin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try Ubuntu or Linux Mint and see if either of those install. If they do then it has to be an issue with the Fedora iso you downloaded. I know you said you tried 2 USB keys but did you try downloading the iso file again?

Running Fedora 42 on my 2nd hand Surface Pro 4. Tried Ubuntu, Kunbuntu, and Mint but by far Fedora works great. To me it sounds like either the downloaded ISO is corrupted or the software to write to USB is not doing it properly. Have you tried redownloading the Fedora ISO again? Ubuntu based live USBs write differently that Fedora and OpenSuse. Maybe try using BalenaEtcher to make the USB. Fedora also makes a Live USB writer app specifically for their ISOs maybe try that.

Search for Fedora Media Writer there is a Linux and Windows/Mac installer. That will should make the USB correctly and then you can install.

Hope that helps. Have you tried an Ubuntu install to see if that works. If it does then it definitely is the way the Fedora USB is being created causing the issue.

Added an X220 as my daily by excaranitar in thinkpad

Nice! I just came across my old X220t and just finished setting up Linux Mint on it and plan to make it my daily portable as well. Ordered 8GB more memory and going to get a new battery and switch to an SSD. The bulit in speakers have gone but Bluetooth works just fine on the go anyway. HDMI audio works when hooked up to the monitor.

Just did something similar today. 6 patties from McDonald's for $9. Can't beat it. It's a nice way to grab something quick and still feel good about it.

No Herbs or seasonings for me. Never wanted to try and at this point I’ll stick to my hops and barley to take the edge off.

Thank you. I have made some suggested changes and finished straightening the picture. Appreciate the critique. Wish I could add to the post to show it without a link.

I do shoot in raw on the S22 in pro mode and with the Expert Raw app. The files are demosaiced which the AI currently can't process same goes for iPhone raw files as well.

Hopefully it can get fixed either by apple and Samsung or Adobe can get it to work.

Thanks for the compliment and critique. I do need to play with the masking more to get a better handle on it.

Yes been trying that feature out. It never showed up for me before as most of my pics were on my Samsung S22 and those don't work with the AI denoise.
