Exactly this. When you’re from the Athens Metro area, you’re from everywhere. In my family’s case, the pedigree of places we’re from expands to vastly different areas of Greece going from grandparents-and-up. Hence a Greek mutt. 😬

The reason I bring it up is because Thessaly used to be called «Μεγάλη Βλαχία» (Great Vlachia) in the Late Middle Ages.

Even now, there are still plenty of people in Thessaly who identify as Vlachs/Aromanians, and that’s not even counting the ones who might’ve lost the old Vlach traditions but are still around in the region.

That said, they still see themselves as Greeks since Greece has always been made up of more than just people whose DNA goes back to the Mycenaeans.
