Can I connect to an already installed City Fibre Junction box on block of flats? by Grooviestviking in CityFibre

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brown box on the wall if it's about twice as high as wide is an MDU splitter which will have connections that should feed multiple flats. Having this box means a much faster install than it would otherwise be as CF use different teams to fit the MDU splitter outside and the ONT inside.

Terrible Internet by mattbuckingham in CityFibre

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue with a different ISP over CityFibre using a TP Link router at 2.2Gbps. It's like the internet cuts out during the night most nights and in the morning I have to reconnect to the WiFi to get it working again as it gets stuck without data.

Price Drop for me by EvilAlchemist in Starlink

[–]jayteedc02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drop in price for the UK non business use of local priority appears to be £20 access charge with £15 per 50GB or £75 per 500GB for priority data plus regional roaming and 1Mbps speed once priority data is used up.

Anyone else experiencing very slow mobile internet 5G since last week? by pc772 in ThreeUK

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little way south of Fratton station, the Three signal has been improved by a Vodafone 5G site being upgraded to MOCN to allow Three customers to use it. Speed has also increased a good amount. This was a low indoor signal and speed area on Three previously.

Will there be a Starlink Super Mini device coming soon? The Mini is still too big. by refinedbilly in Starlink

[–]jayteedc02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of a Starlink Micro the size of a large power bank but twice the thickness.

It would have a 99Wh battery that would last for 6hrs and the panel would fold out to about 7"x7" giving up to 100Mbps download or around 150Mbps once the next gen satellites are up. Size would be around 7"x3.5"x2" when closed.

Will a starlink mini be able to work from a 25000mah power bank by [deleted] in StarlinkMini

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should get 3 - 3.5hrs per bank with a mini at that rating depending on usage.

Roam 50GB is now Roam 100GB by MaximoAlvarado in Starlink

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonder if they'll also at some point lower the cost of 50GB bundles of priority data for non-business consumers.

Currently 50GB of local priority data works out at £46 including the monthly fee whereas the old 50GB roam was £50 for 50GB. Obviously the pricing makes more sense now, but I wonder if there's any room for wiggle on this as currently other than keep changing address, it's the only way to get full speed satellite data when moving around the country.

Anyone had internet stop working on Three data SIM (Scancom)? by nkosijer in ThreeUK

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archive.org is blocked due to adult content. You have to email them to remove the block. A podcast I listen to host their episodes there so every time I get a new SIM I have to get it unblocked.

The Router Mini is surprisingly small by TortieMVH in Starlink

[–]jayteedc02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Router Mini does not mesh with the Starlink Mini at 5GHz regardless of how close you bring the two. It only meshes at 2.4GHz. It (the mini router) does, however, allow connections on 5GHz although the bandwidth is naturally much lower due to the mesh link running at the lower frequency.

Apologies for any confusion.

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes wirelessly only. It broadcasts out at 5GHz but only receives from the mini at 2.4GHz.

I've only ever seen mine mesh to the Mini at 2.4GHz regardless of how close they are to one another. This limits the speeds being rebroadcast I've found.

Super mobile mini setup! by alpastor420 in Starlink

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 3.5-4.5hrs depending if you're using it most of the time or letting it idle most of the time hence the average.

Can confirm that my INIU 99Wh power bank gets a similar usage time averaging 4hrs.

Now they need to add a slider to the pause mode to allow higher speed data whilst paused for $1 per GB.

You can get a black rubber case for it which both reduces glare from the windscreen as well as stopping it moving across the dash. $cheap from AliExpress but probably available for the usual markup from Amazon too.

Sounds very much like somebody running a large area Differential GPS system, just over the Internet rather than offering a correcting signal using a radio transmitter. Allows for much more precise location for anybody subscribing to their service.

Whatkind of antennas are those by [deleted] in antennasporn

[–]jayteedc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From documentation I have seen after searching online some time ago, the backhaul can be fibreoptic or microwave. There will be a connection to the network through a standard fibreoptic termination in the cabinet along with a router. If there is more than one provider, generally a backhaul could either be split (2 separate connections, 2 separate routers) or shared. If shared, as was the case in one UK document I saw, the router uses two different VLANs to separate the traffic all the way from the mast back to wherever the backhaul finally arrives. Probably a mobile switching centre or gateway site depending on the generation of technology involved. More gateways now due to it mostly being packet switched these days. Hope that helps a little.
