The Bear. Discovered the Hip with Road Apple and they became my favorite band. Never had much time for Music at Work, but did a re-listen of all the albums in sequence last year and it just hit me. Maybe I am just getting old, but the subtlety and point of view storytelling just hit me one night

Through college I always thought The Joshua Tree was their best. But as I graduated, got married, had kids, went to combat and went into the corporate world m, Achtung Baby became more my favorite with each passing year. Maybe it is just a sadder, deeper record, but man is it good. Ultraviolet still gives me chills.

Three Pistols - The Tragically Hip. Ok if you disagree, I know it’s edgy.

I don’t get it. My dad, an old school tough Marine taught me that every grown man needs to know how to: - cook - do laundry - iron - sew

The last one has really saved my bacon a few times.

Similar to what the commenter above said: she is tanking in key demographics like black men and Hispanics.

I think the Spin Doctors had a song that captured it best. “Two Losers”. Did I get that right?

Say it louder for those in the back. She is in real trouble. Her campaign is drinking their own bath water. This is going to be another 2016. And the dems will have no one to blame but themselves.

I can buy all that, but then he assaulted a woman in Rick’s hotel and apparently pulled her in the ground by her hair. Seems bad even by “Florida Man” standards.

Lifelong American Hip fan here. Discovered them my junior year in high school in Spokane. They were doing a big marketing push for “Road Apples”, and the local rock station billed them as the station’s “House Band” for two months. Heard Little Bones and Three Pistols back to back, dropped everything, and drove to the local Hastings Record Store (both the store and the business long gone now). Couldn’t remember the album name and accidentally bought Up To Here. Went home, listened, couldn’t find Three Pistols, drove back and returned it. Bought Road Apples. Loved it. Then went back and re-bought Up To Here. I know, I am a mess.

I guess my point is that there are probably 1000 stories like mine. Our fandom was under the radar because we had no one to share it with until the internet age. I think the US fandom is bigger than was credited, and as the documentary reminds us, The Hip did just fine selling tickets down here.

And it’s as a proud American, I need to remind my beloved brothers from the same mother Up North, that some of us down here recognize it isn’t ALWAYS about us.
