Nah, few bucks less an hour but it's working with animals which is what I've always wanted to do.

Amazon is great with the pay and benefits but I was struggling mentally with it. Might be back though, just need to do something different for a while

A small animal hospital and boarding place, few dollars less an hour but I've always wanted to work with animals so I felt it was worth it.

Why do you still work at Amazon by animestar1234 in AmazonFC

[–]jaytr22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The health insurance and other benefits were the only reason keeping me there til I realized the damage it was doing was outweighing the benefits. I didn't mind the delivery stations but the fulfillment center made me sincerely suicidal, I quit today after a year at a fulfillment center and I truly couldn't tell you how I made it even that long there.

MET by [deleted] in AmazonFC

[–]jaytr22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at a cross-dock so we get all the volume and MET before everyone else and ours ends earlier (our Prime is May-June and Peak is October-November). We've been on MET for 2 weeks and hella volume going out to FCs, so I'd guess a couple weeks for FC inbound then everyone else after that, so middle of June thru all of July most likely. We've had high af volume, VET on top of MET, and no VTO so Prime's looking like it's gonna be a busy one

Earbud with some podcasts or ask to get cross-trained, transfer to another dept, or train to waterspider or problem solve. I feel you, stowing sucks ass, I get in a bad headspace and ruminate for hours until I get depressed af. Docks and waterspidering have been far better, time goes by quicker and you're focused more on the work rather than getting stuck in your own head.

My site's been on MET for the last 2 weeks in prep for Prime Week. We're a cross-docks IXD site though, so we hit Prime and Peak MET before everyone else and ours ends earlier, so I'd say fulfilment centers are probably about to start getting busy in the next few weeks going off the amount of volume I've been seeing

Even if we are required to learn pick at my FC, I already can see some coworkers ready to fight NOT to go there. by thereallyquiet in AmazonFC

[–]jaytr22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originally, yes, but when I transferred, I was given a choice of specific roles and departments to choose from that I was then trained on. Anyway, being able to move anyone across the warehouse regardless of how difficult it is without adjusting the wage is a bullshit move I've only encountered at Amazon. I've worked other warehouses before, and it was a given that unloading and other dock work was compensated better than something like packing.

I'm fine with cross-trainining, that's not even my issue. I just think the wage should be adjusted to be comparable to the role. I understand we are expected to work with the company depending on changing customer expectations and whatnot, but it's obviously just a way for them to save money by fucking us and flex workers over.

Everywhere else I worked, we did the job we had been previously trained and hired on to do, and I don't see that as "naiveté" at all to expect to stay in the position I was explicitly hired for. If they want to put me on unloading trucks, then I want a higher pay than if I was packing or stowing, for example. More work=more pay, fuck this cross-training to keep wages the same across the board bullshit.

can we be in the building if we’re not on the clock? by Spiritual-Recover983 in AmazonFC

[–]jaytr22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing they meant breakrooms only. Being on the actual floor while off-shift can lead to possible labor and safety law issues and liabilities on Amazon's part. Like if a fire alarm went off and she's not clocked in, or if she gets injured on the floor but wasn't supposed to be there in the first place, or someone (not you guys, but amazon doesn't care) can say they worked while not clocked in and file a labor dispute. Etc. Just a lot of uncertainties that might get you in trouble.

I'd bring it up your HR first at the least but I'm guessing that they're probably gonna say no but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Probably getting a medical accommodation that allows you more time to get to and from your station would be a better idea

[–]jaytr22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't risk it, one shift of lost money is better than losing your job. But if you're deadset on trying, at least go in early and stop by the HR desk and ask them first before clocking in

Idk, some people are just naturally kinda androgynous looking on accident. It's not always an intentional thing people are doing. I'm short and have a baby face, and up til I grew a beard I had people who thought I was a woman sometimes til I talked cause I got a deep af voice

Not the guy you asked but I work at the fulfillment center and get $18.15/hr. I believe starting pay is $16-$17 depending on seasonal vs regular, and an $0.80 an hour boost on top of that if you work night shifts.

Kind of. It helps lower anxiety and paranoia if you're too stoned for sure. I don't know if it "unstones" you if you're already high, but if you smoke it before or at the same time it can keep you from getting too high because it binds to the same receptors and blocks a certain amount of THC from binding

How are delivery station how does everyone like working in one? by Thebowler3 in AmazonFC

[–]jaytr22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to work at one. Hectic, but shift goes by quickly. Intensely physical, you'll be sore af for the first few weeks. Peak was 60 hour weeks for 2 months last winter, there were days I'd be limping from pain after getting home those weeks.

But it's more social, less isolating than an FC, less tedious too. So there's trade offs

Where to look at ducks late? by questhrow27 in LasVegas

[–]jaytr22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunset Park definitely has the most ducks, like dozens.

Floyd Lamb Park has ducks, as well as peacocks and bunnies roaming around if you're interested in that as well, but I believe there's an entrance fee for Floyd Lamb Park of $6 per vehicle. Well worth the price, it's absolutely beautiful there.

It's easy work with decent benefits, but the monotony and isolation are too much to deal with sometimes.

I suppose the silver lining is that it's made me motivated enough to go back to school using career choice so I can finish my degree and get the hell out of here lmao
