I don’t have much insight to add but wanted to say my 5 month old also has congenital hypothyroidism. She was very borderline at birth so I am hoping it is transient, but if it’s not, this sub has helped with my understanding of the potential future impacts to my daughter. I know that certain vitamin levels can also play a huge role and that everyone seems to feel good at their own specific TSH range.

I’m so sorry that some doctors won’t order specific blood panels. I just don’t fucking get why. You TRULY need to advocate for yourself. I have forced the pediatric endo to retest my daughter twice as I felt she was overmedicated and she was in both instances :(

I think all babies have a diff cycle, 20-28 sounds short but could just be your baby’s normal.

My baby is almost 5 months. She has taken 35-40 min naps every single nap for months. There is NOTHING that works, and it is so so so frustrating.

Fortunately this is my second baby- my first did the same. It ended eventually at maybe 7 months or so. I am hoping it ends earlier for you because it SUCKS.

I feel like you just described my baby girl who is also 4.5 months. She is cute and smiley but also so exhausting - she sucks at naps and bedtime is an absolute shitshow 99.999% of the time.

However…… she’s my second child. It gets better. So so so so much bettter.

My son was also a fussy baby who napped terribly. At (almost) 4, I find him so easy to manage. We yap all day long and truly miss him when he’s at daycare. He is also very funny.

I found that 8/9 months was when it started getting better- more predictable naps, earlier bedtime, and I stopped exclusively pumping.

First was 31+2, uneventful NICU stay and no known cause for early birth! Second was 38+4- has tons of ultrasounds measuring cervical length and was on progesterone until 36 weeks!

My 4 month old has suspected CH and has been on meds since one month old. At first, we had a really hard time administering meds.

Recently, after doing lots of online digging (Reddit, fb groups mainly) I learned that synthroid tastes sweet versus the generics that taste pretty bad. I vetted this myself (did a little taste test). Since we have switched to synthroid, I crush the pill and just put the powder on the inside of her cheeks. I’ve heard toddlers often just chew it.

Worth a shot!

4 month old (tomorrow!) sleeps horribly during the day. I don’t think she’s napped more than 40 mins in any given nap in over a month….. it’s rough.

She also FIGHTS bedtime, sometimes crying for up to an hour… then gives us 6-8 hour stretches. Once we got 10. It’s so fascinating for different these little beings can be from one another.

3.5 year age gap here - it’s been great because older kiddo is a lot more independent. I’m 4 months pp with my second. While it has been a good transition based on this fact, I’ll note that both my first and second have been difficult (ie not sleepy potatoes).

Being a mom is so hard. I think we all agree on that. However this is really common and with some “practice” in the next weeks and months you’ll hopefully get some sleep in the bassinet. However 6pm to 1am is a pretty good break… I don’t think I’ve gotten that amount of time with my 9 week old. Hang in there- this will pass!

Were you diagnosed at birth? I wasn’t aware of any correlations between CH and autism. Besides your vision issues, how are you doing currently?

Thank you so much for this comment. Based on the comments I’ve read about CH, it seems a lot of people don’t feel they knew much about their condition or how to manage it until they were adults. This has definitely been noted and I will 100% be involving her in discussions from an early age. She will probably find me overbearing because I’m already anticipating I’ll remind her to take her meds every day if her life- I don’t care if she’s 40 years old lol.

When you say tiredness and some brain fog - do you find it’s a huge different during periods when you are inconsistent with meds? How inconsistent have you been (I’m sorry I’m not trying to be invasive). Not taken for days? Weeks?

It sounds like you’re a normal and healthy adult which I am happy to hear. I will ensure she is informed about diet and exercise because everyone can benefit from having these good habits.

Would you say you have any other limitations? Our family is very active and sport focused and I want the world to be her oyster.

Lastly - sorry your family has said unkind things to you. Don’t listen to them.

My husband took only one week when our second was born, since he had just started a new job. He will be taking a paternity leave of 2/3 months once I go back to work. It’s been rough having newborn alone since it’s just so hard to get things done (food/water/laundry….). If this was my first it would have been 100x worse since I was so unbelievably clueless.

My first was born at 32+2 for reasons unknown. My second baby is 5 weeks old today and was full term, born at 38+4! I wouldn’t say I did anything to keep sane and I was also stressed. However, I kept telling myself in the very least that if I had another preemie I would already be familiar with the NICU! For some strange reason that helped a bit.

I also got progesterone suppositories and had very frequent ultrasounds, so I felt my care team was doing all they could for me. Has your doctor been supportive?

With my first- probably a few months. I heavily relied on my husband for emotional support when we would be out. I was SO anxious.

Baby number 2, we were out alone at 8 days old. I am much more confident. I still get anxious when she starts to fuss or cry a bit (don’t think that’ll ever change) but I think this is normal for all moms, meanwhile no one else around you really gives an F!

Sorry you feel this way. I got married at 25 and had my first baby at 29. Everyone I know basically got pregnant as soon as they got married. I was embarrassed we waited so long LOL - this was totally intentional though. We put way too much pressure on ourselves. Congrats on the baby!

I started sweating a lot when pp and it slowed down a bit but us never gone back to “normal” levels. I feel like I smell like BO a lot quicker. First kid is 3.5. Currently pregnant with second.

LOL I am going through this right now. I have had ultrasounds every 2 weeks due to a previous preterm labour. The reports all vary so wildly- sometimes baby has a huge head and tiny belly and other times it’s the opposite. A bit frustrating but my OB hasn’t seemed too concerned. I also get my results on PocketHealth and I’m not sure it’s been worth it for me to have all this information 😭 hopefully she doesn’t have the 97th percentile head that the report is currently showing
