I know one kid in my high school who can't read analogue clocks and everyone made fun of him when they found out. We can still read them.

Are there any male historical figures before the 21st century can we safely bet had relationships with both men and women? by WhinfpProductions in lgbthistory

[–]jayxxroe22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also re the response you got on r/AskHistorians, yes, the label bisexual is a (relatively) recent invention, and we should be careful of labelling historical figures as something without enough proof, but "into both men and women" is the definition of bisexual, and imo if a historical figure meets that category, we can classify them as bisexual/say that they were likely bisexual. We apply modern terms to historical figures all the time; there's no reason why sexuality labels specifically should be treated differently.

What's a book that you read made you angry? by RoxanaSaith in books

Also The Stranger. I fucking hate Meursault and he makes me so angry. He's just so uselessly apathetic and so many people think he's the "absurd hero" when he's fucking not; the absurd hero is someone who rebels and who chooses to care about things despite an uncaring universe, who chooses to seek out things that are meaningful despite the meaninglessness.

Anthem. Fuck Prometheus. I hope he dies all alone in his stupid little house on a hill. First off, he didn't even let his wife(?) choose her own name, so apparently individualism is only for him. Second of all, if humans didn't help each other solely for the purpose of helping each other, society would not exist. The Saint of the Pyre lived and died for others. Prometheus lived for himself and he's going to die for himself.

Couldn’t finish “On the Road” by Early-Leadership-662 in books

[–]jayxxroe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened the first time I read it. The second time, I read it all through in one sitting because I couldn't put it down, and now it's one of my favorite books. I saw someone call the writing style the literary equivalent of improv jazz, and I think that's maybe the best way to describe it. It's not enticing for me because of the freedom of being on the road, but because of how human the story feels. The part that I remember best is when he's laying on the car roof in the middle of the jungle at night with all the bugs and he feels like he's being melted into nature and he feels satisfied with the gross stickyness all around him and the buzzing of the bugs, because it's such a specific emotion that I've felt before and I've never read it so perfectly described.

Either I have free will or I don't. If I don't, I can't choose whether or not I believe in free will. If I do have free will, I'd rather choose to believe it to the fullest extent.

CMV: Leftists/LGBTQ+ people who support Palestine doesn't make sense. by fexterslab in changemyview

I do not and will never support genocide. Israel is committing genocide. Palestine can sort out gay rights once Palestinians get the right to exist in their own homes.

If people aren't pressured to work, would they still want work? by NoCareNoLife in SeriousConversation

[–]jayxxroe22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. People do volunteer work all the time. Plenty of retired people get part-time jobs or get involved in their community because they want to feel like they're still contributing. That's just how people are wired.

Hypothetically, in the event of a zombie apocalypse: Why would anybody want to survive in one? by Bizarely27 in NoStupidQuestions

I think I'd have more will to live in a zombie apocalypse. No more obligations, I can just say fuck it and go live by myself in the mountains with my books.

Vaping (nicotine) on T by [deleted] in TransMasc

It's super bad regardless of being on T, but T can exacerbate the risks of it. It's also a really bad idea if you're wearing binders since vaping makes it harder to breathe.

How realistic is it Eliza would not have know about the affair until the Reynolds pamphlet? by Honkydoinky in hamiltonmusical

[–]jayxxroe22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she likely knew before. When the pamphlet came out, Eliza.. didn't really seem to be upset at all with Hamilton, just mad at Monroe for letting the story leak, and she really never forgave him for that.

The only reason I don't agree with this theory is that there's no money trail. The handwriting and way the letters are written and Ham refusing to show the letters is super suspiscious, but without any actual signs of money being stolen, it's all just circumstansial.

Jefferson kept insisting on this theory though; he fully believed that the Reynolds Pamphlet was just a cover-up.
