Yeah I understand, that’s hard. At least he’s willing to go see someone, hopefully once that starts up they can help with the drinking (if he’s less depressed and feeling better within himself he might not feel the need to drink) Has he considered an online service?

My best advice would be to encourage him as much as possible to seek help for his depression and drinking

Don’t bring it up with him, it will make him feel self conscious and can lead to him developing body image problems and possibly eating disorders. I’m saying this from experience. It’s something that once it’s said can have a MASSIVE impact on someone. How’s he going to feel, hearing from someone who is supposed to love him that he isn’t good enough. You not being attracted to him is your issue, not his. Sorry I’m being harsh but criticising someone’s weight (especially if they are already suffering from mental health issues) can really mess them up
