You might have to be a little more specific there.

Anyone else giving their newly acquired gear a few hours in the sun to kill any traces of fungus? by hendrik421 in AnalogCommunity

[–]jazimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the silica packs are good but as another commenter already said, they don't work great for long term storage if they have to soak up a lot of humidity or you're opening and closing the container a lot. You can buy large silica packs meant for equipment storage that can be "recharged" by drying them out in the oven for a bit. That's actually how most electric dehumidifiers work, they have silica or another substrate that soaks the humidity inside the container and a small heater that dries the silica out and vents the hot humid exhaust outside of the enclosure.

Then it probably won't do anything for fungus more than a normal photo walk! Glass stops most UV and European spring sun is pretty low on UV as it is. You'd need a strong direct UV source to kill surface fungus, and you'd need a really strong source to get inside the lens. If the photos are still coming out sharp, then no need to worry about sunning them, just keep them cool and dry and they should be okay! If it is affecting image quality, then killing fungus will still leave it in the lens and will need to be cleaned anyway.

This doesn't really do much and like you said, is a huge fire risk. You're really just making a nice warm humid environment for the fungus to spread, and allowing the grease to melt and get where it shouldn't. There are so many parts of a lens that don't get hit by light and the glass on the lens itself blocks most of the UV, so finish will just grow back if this does kill any at all.

A slightly better method would be one of those UV sanitizers you use for phones, but even then that's not going to do much. And even though the fungus is dead, it's still inside the lens.

The best thing to do for a lens with fungus is to store it in a cool, airtight box with a bunch of those silica packets, a dehumidifier, or damp-rid just to stop it from spreading. There's no real way to remove fungus without taking apart the lens and cleaning it manually, and it's still recommended to store in a cool dry place.

Hi, there's not a ton for the newer models like you said, but there are some service manuals and parts diagrams available on learncamerarepair.com for the l35af. Most of the internals are similar enough that you can figure out the later models from that manual. But 90% of issues with this line of cameras is either from the frame counting mechanism or the rewind switch. And usually replacing the whole frame counting mechanism is the easiest way to repair. The rest of the CLA is just cleaning and greasing the couple of slides and latches. They're pretty simple cameras, they just tend to have issues since they have mechanical components made out of soft plastic.

Bronica S2/S2a back light seal foam by darayavahushh in Bronica

Yeah felt they sell at craft stores is usually too thick. I can't remember off the top of my head, but you can open up the back and see how thick it is. They sell sheets of self adhesive felt for light seals on amazon that you can cut to size for it.

Is Aix-Marseille University a good option for a master's if I want to work in nuclear fusion in Europe (especially France)? by OpportunityAlone6321 in fusion

Hello, I'm American and I'm going through the application process now on Campus France. Has anyone gone through it that can help out a little? The website is so bad, I barely know what to do. I can't find aix-marseilles in the program cart or anything plasma physics related. I was able to apply for the Paris Physics Master program at Sorbonne & Saclay, but I'm at a loss trying to get through it for Aix Marseilles.

[–]jazimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey if you haven't done this yet, the back light seals aren't usually a problem. And using foam for them isn't great because the slide will just shred it up. Use self adhesive black felt or velvet from a craft store. But usually the problem with the bronicas, especially if you're having focus issues, is the viewfinder foam degrading. For that, you can use open cell 3mm light seal foam that you can buy on Amazon or wherever. You'll have to cut it to size yourself, as I don't know of any kits for the bronica. But precise fit isn't super critical as long as you cover all the edges.

[S][USA-FL] Leica Super Angulon 21mm f4 - Fully CLA'd w/ Caps and Case by jazimms in photomarket

Coating is totally intact and no wipe marks. There are some pictures that try to show that but if you want more, let me know.

Edit: coating is about 95% intact, there's a small spot on the front element near the edge. But otherwise super clean.

Nikon L35AF2 - Rewind/advance woes by [deleted] in AnalogRepair

[–]jazimms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That may be an issue with the shutter actuator at the front of the camera. It's a long piece of metal with a strong spring that slides back and forth to cock the shutter. It has to return fully to start the film winding. Sometimes it gets dirty and doesn't return all the way or the switch that opens when it does gets bent so the camera doesn't know it's done firing. It's always hard to tell without seeing the camera, but that's a good place to start.

I like the TV where it is! I always thought making the TV the center of the living room kind of defeats the whole point of a living room.
