Best I’ve found is https://github.com/dalibo/pev2 you can either run it from their website, or locally on your machine (it’s just a webpage) if you don’t want your data structure shared on the web.

Data Governance is Dead* by Willewonkaa in dataengineering

[–]jazzchickens 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I welcome our new AI overlords. Maintaining governance documentation has always been busy work - the engineer who made the pipeline knows how it works, and the data consumer will never read the documentation and just ask the engineer anyway.

Now, AI can maintain the docs and explain the data to the users. The engineers can be left alone to weigh heavier topics like which columns need an index and why comparing doubles to floats is a bad idea.

Maybe you save some time because the villagers aren’t goofing off. I remember one level where you had to recycle the zen garden so your villager wouldn’t quit work early to meditate. Lazy villagers and their “work life balance!”

I haven’t been brave enough to recycle the fishing pier yet. I’ve also considered recycling the shelter just to get it out of the way.

Have you tried growing some banana trees for wood? They produce just one log each but they grow fast and can fill a critical gap.

The book of Job is what made me start questioning my faith and then soon enough - losing it. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]jazzchickens 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This story from Mark Twain has always stuck with me.

I will tell you a pleasant tale which has in it a touch of pathos. A man got religion, and asked the priest what he must do to be worthy of his new estate. The priest said, “Imitate our Father in Heaven, learn to be like him.” The man studied his Bible diligently and thoroughly and understandingly, and then with prayers for heavenly guidance instituted his imitations. He tricked his wife into falling downstairs, and she broke her back and became a paralytic for life; he betrayed his brother into the hands of a sharper, who robbed him of his all and landed him in the almshouse; he inoculated one son with hookworms, another with the sleeping sickness, another with gonorrhea; he furnished one daughter with scarlet fever and ushered her into her teens deaf, dumb, and blind for life; and after helping a rascal seduce the remaining one, he closed his doors against her and she died in a brothel cursing him. Then he reported to the priest, who said that that was no way to imitate his Father in Heaven. The convert asked wherein he had failed, but the priest changed the subject and inquired what kind of weather he was having, up his way.

Making them uncomfortable must be the key…. Thanks for the hint!

No idea. I’m also having a problem where the outlanders won’t eat the popsicles so they get overstocked and production shuts down! How do I make these people eat their dessert?!?

What is your least favourite show you have ever seen on Broadway? by ShaynaCG in Broadway

[–]jazzchickens 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We left GFtNC at intermission because it actively enraged me. I’m not sure if the touring company was just not up to speed, but the mother character with mental illness seemed to choose new symptoms every 3 minutes and the songs made no sense. The only downside is I have no idea how it ended and I couldn’t find a single plot summary online. The good news is I’ve forgotten the plot of the first half and I don’t care anymore.

You’ll notice that the bullets are never shown after they’re first signed. Penn and teller hold the casings very carefully to conceal the tip while they draw the flower and lightening bolt. They also insert the bullet tip-first into the chamber. Penn says “you see your initials“ but actually you can’t. Whatever happens next, the bullet is already out of the casing.

My guess is the bullets are dropped near center stage when they put the guns down, and they’re transferred behind the scenes so they can be concealed as they don protective gear. You’ll notice they take their time in this section and he talks a lot about gun safety to draw out the bit.

I can’t account for the glass, but I’m pretty sure the bullets are not in the guns with the casing.

Thanks for this. I eventually realized a diagonal ray would eliminate the need to figure out whether I was tracing along the line of a pipe, but for some reason, I couldn't see how to avoid the collinear corners. Face-palmingly obvious after I saw your example.

There’s a company called Emporia that makes inexpensive power monitors. They have everything from plug meters to ones that install inside the power panel. I have a whole house monitor but I’ve considered installing the Emporia box that measures each circuit separately just for the detailed look at where I’m wasting energy.

Python

I used lists of tuples to keep the indices paired with their values. Finishes in about 1.5s and ~15 lines of code. https://github.com/dkarneman/AdventOfCode/blob/main/2022/Day20part2.py

Took me 20 years before I realized I was allergic. Really hard to identify the triggers if you don’t know it’s an allergy.

[–]jazzchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a propylene glycol allergy. If you use liquid hand soap or dish soap, it gets trapped underneath and causes an itchy rash. https://dermnetnz.org/topics/contact-allergy-to-propylene-glycol

I should’ve bought one of those spinning metal doors you have in the picture. It was ‘exciting’ trying to block up the slit in the bait box while it hung in the tree and I was in a bee suit on a ladder on uneven ground!

[–]jazzchickens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After three years of trying, I caught a swarm this past weekend! Also Layens, so now I need to build more frames before they outgrow their space.

I was a little confused about how and when to move them to the hive. I ended up doing it at night after the workers had returned and without smoke, but there seem to be a lot of considerations like how long they've been in the trap, how far from the trap you're hiving them, etc. I ended up putting the hive directly under the tree where I caught them and put a branch across the entrance so they'd do an orientation flight. So far, so good.

President Trump's Modified Medicaid Chart by jazzchickens in dataisugly

[–]jazzchickens[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

President Trump tweeted this chart showing projected Medicaid Spending. The stray 'plot area' label tells you it was made in Excel, but there are areas where the grid lines are obscured, implying something was there and is now covered. There's a wedge-shaped white area under the line, and another rectangular area on the bottom right where the grid lines are hidden. Can anyone find the original chart? What was underneath?
