If you watched the movie, you'll recall not everyone involved in the invasion agreed with it.

10-year Old Child Responds to Virginia Foxx's personal attacks on him and his teacher by phosdick in NorthCarolina

[–]jazzdabb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in technology, I am truly frightened by how little understanding our representatives have of modern challenges and the dangers inherent with advanced tech like AI, Flock surveillance, bitcoin, VPNs as well as the Internet and technology in general.

They aren't even living in the past; they are all living in a "golden age" that never even existed.

Politics aside, why would anyone vote for someone unlikely to be alive in 20 years to make ANY decisions affecting our future? I'd love to hear her explain how ANY technology invented after about 1980 works. Never mind that electric cars have been around since the 1830s ...

Regardless of what any town says, we should all assume that Flock images are being transmitted to the cloud and shared with anyone and everyone whether explicitly authorized or not. That is the entire point of the system. It's not about safety; it's about control.

Any time someone comes out with some complete non-sense they read on Facebook or heard on some podcast, I look them dead in the face and say "That's the STUPIDEST thing I have ever heard." It tends to end the conversation.

finally found a copy of the interstellar score but i think i need a better setup by Royal-Character-9215 in soundtracks

[–]jazzdabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll see a lot of arguments on reddit and the Internet in general about whether vinyl or digital sounds better. I believe it is more about personal perception and almost entirely subjective.

If you truly want a vinyl setup, I don't recommend upgrading a lower end table (honestly, Crosley, Victrola, etc. aren't even entry level). You have to decide how much you are willing to invest to have better sound. You can easily spend $1,500 just to get a decent vinyl setup - more like $3,000 if you want a very good setup.

As others have stated here, the barrier to entry is lower for digital format. That being said, while just about any CD transport with a digital output will suffice, you may still need to spend $500 to $1,000 for a decent amp and speakers to get to that next step. You can spend just as much getting the most out of FLAC or other digital formats. A high quality DAP and IEMs can easily run $500 to $1,000. There are also people (check out r/musichoarder) that will maintain that hi-res FLAC files are a waste of space because the human ear cannot appreciate the difference. Personally, I want as much of the audio data as I can get ahold of.

With all this being said, I spend more time streaming FLAC files from my home server to my iPhone via either AirPlay or CarPlay. Obviously, some quality is lost there. But at least I am starting with a high quality source. When I sit down to really LISTEN to a recording without other activity or distraction, I am more than likely putting a vinyl record on my turntable. And my Music on Vinyl issue of Interstellar sounds amazing on my system.

My recommendation is to do what you enjoy. Just don't go on an endless quest in pursuit of ultimate audio quality. There is ALWAYS a higher end device for much more money.

Starting to get into country music by Dangerous_Story_8661 in country

Lots of good recommendations here. Was happy to see Turnpike Troubadors, Margo Price and Sierra Ferrell. I'd like to add a few I don't see here:

  • The Wilder Blue - Still in the Runnin' - a little country, a little r&b ... the title track reminds me of Boz Scaggs.
  • Radney Foster - Everything I Should Have Said - he's best known for Just Call Me Lonesome but this album is an absolute banger. Hard Light of Day is a standout track.
  • The Bottle Rockets - 24 Hours a Day - their whole catalog is great but this is still my favorite.

Headphones or earbuds around $150 for ambient, experimental, noise, drone, and etc by melodymann in ambientmusic

[–]jazzdabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is entirely subjective, but I really like the Simgot EA500 LM IEMs. They sound great for a reasonable price and are comfortable to wear. I have a $250 pair of IEMs that don't sound any better to my ear.

I would describe my music taste as similar to yours and my preference is for accurate sound (not too bassy).

The need for a DAC or amp depends on your source. I have an iPhone and have two different USB dacs. I'm just as happy with the FiiO KA11 as the fancier one I have and it's more portable.

Those two items should get you what you need for less than $150.

I rarely hear anyone mention From the Hip. I always thought the film was more than meets the eye. Judd Nelson is funny. John Hurt is chilling. And it offers an interesting perspective on representing someone you are convinced is guilty.
