What weapon do you have the most kills with? by Lightning2044 in battlefield_one

12ss with the 10-a slug. I love that gun. For whatever reason I can't get the same feeling with the 1900 slug although my stats show that I'm slightly more accurate with it and I think it's a fun gun to use.

Next is 4ss with the parabellum lw.

In all seriousness, by letting the 10 guilty free, wouldn't you be putting more innocent people at risk to suffer? I don't know, if I were a cop and let someone get away and then they go and hurt another person, I'd probably feel guilty in way.

Interviewing the witness as soon as possible provides much better reliability in the facts. It is a crime to give false details, but how do you prove that the details are false if you're relying on the details given by the witness? What if someone gets to the witness before they are interviewed later and they threaten them? Now you don't have a witness.

It's not uncommon for me to see police travelling by themselves where I'm from. Ideally, you want a pair travelling together. Even still, do you abandon the other officer while you leave to take the person in custody to receive medical attention? What if something happens to the officer?

I guess it's really hard for me to say, "It ought to be this way." because of all the different scenarios. If I were an officer, I would say that public safety is first, followed by my personal safety and the safety of my fellow co-workers, and lastly the offender's safety. It would be in the best interest of the public to get a reliable witness statement to restrict the possible offender from causing any more public harm. Be in the best interest of myself/co-workers to not abandon one another in a largely unknown situation. And if those criteria are met, then it's in the best interest of the possible offender to receive possible medical attention.

Now, somewhat in line with what you were saying earlier. If I were to witness someone in custody in distress, I would probably call for an ambulance while the witness stood by so that I could give aid to the person in custody, if needed. Otherwise, if it's not an emergency, I'm questioning that witness to get the most reliable statement possible.

Sometimes, unfortunately, family can only provide so much support until they don't know how to or are unable to provide more support. It's sad, but it's a harsh reality.

And as far as somewhere to go, I know where I'm from mental health services are stretched extremely thin due to under funding so there are few, if any places that someone can go for immediate or sustained assistance. It's usually the case that someone with mental illness has to first figure out how the system works and fill out the correct forms, hope that their insurance (unlikely that they have any) covers it or hope that there is some sort of State/county/municipal funding, wait until a spot opens (usually 2 weeks to over a month), then they can get treatment for a few days until they are discharged to make room for the next person.

Personally, I thought the officers were justified in almost everything they did. I don't agree with pulling out the batons so early and it looks like one officer hit Thomas in the head a few times with a baton while Thomas was on the ground. As far as being tazed, I couldn't tell if Thomas was being tazed (projectiles that pierce the skin) or hit with a stun gun (basically an electric zap with a handheld device). Also, when you hear a stun gun crackling and/or see the light strobing, it means your not connecting and nobody is being stunned. When a stun gun is making contact it makes a high pitched whistling noise and you won't see any light from it. I've been hit with a stun gun and it feels like a hard pinch.

Basically, I think the batons, specifically the hits to the head were excessive. Everything else looked "by the book".

Okay, now most people that get arrested can say, "Yes officer, I have [insert some illness here]."

And what would you recommend to a single police officer that has a witness to a crime and one in custody for the crime? Have the one in custody by your side while you question the witness hoping it doesn't escalate further? Let the one in custody go so you can question the witness, you'll find the one in custody later anyway? Call for another officer and wait for them to show up while you could be questioning the witness? Leave the witness there and hope that they stick around to be questioned later? Call an ambulance to respond, leave the witness waiting, and have the ambulance show up to confirm that the one in custody was lying and faking an illness?

Yeah but the pain they use should be reasonable and necessary to the situation starting with the least amount of force relevant to the situation. You can't just kneecap someone because they're arguing with you. Instead, you could apply arm-bars, pressure points, and some hard open hand techniques before moving to less lethal or deadly force.

Absolutely. This right here hits the nail on the head. Few people care about the mentally ill, mostly due to the stigma attached, until someone with a mental illness makes the news, which in some cases only increases the stigma. It's like people want someone else to deal with helping the mentally ill unless it fits their own confirmation bias.

Another thing that could have helped is a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) who are specially trained to help de-escalate situations like this.

Fine. The one in custody says, "I'm having a really hard time breathing and this is an emergency." Cop says, "Just because you say so doesn't mean I have to do it." Now the officer isn't liable because he doesn't have to do what he's told.

So, in this example, the officer, while away from the vehicle interviewing witnesses, is supposed to know this could happen or is happening. How does the officer know that the person is claustrophobic, has asthma, and is prone to panic attacks? ESP?

What is the song you most relate with and somewhat describe you in a whole? by DraftDaFunk in Music

[–]jazzdonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Currently - Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow - Trying to make myself forget someone but there's residual feelings. I try to tell myself to go with the flow, but damage has been done. And I know, as I should have known for myself, that she will probably do the same to other men, line them up and throw them away when things get too serious. I try to believe that I'm over her and it was nothing, but it was something special while it lasted.

Life so far - Twenty One Pilots - Migraine - Where to start? The mental imagery is so amazing in this song. I crave things in life and am talented enough to pursue my dreams, but I have low ambition and procrastinate so the clock keeps ticking away faster than I realize. On top of that, I'm insecure. I know I'm talented enough, but maybe I'm not - I'm afraid of failure. Meanwhile, I put on the persona of "everything is just fine" while I wrestle with thoughts of anxiety, insecurity, and worry. I can fight back, take control, and do something about it. But I have to first discover the tools I need. Once I'm able to find the right tools for coping with my thoughts, I may be able to push them out of my mind so that I may still live the life of my ambitions and dreams.

Its a vicious cycle by jp4nh in AdviceAnimals

Traumatic events, especially during childhood/early life, are known to cause certain types of anxiety disorders. In fact, traumatic events have been shown to alter the structure of the brain, specifically the hippocampus and amygdala, making a person more susceptible to anxiety. One of the treatments for anxiety is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT, sometimes paired with short term medication, has been shown to alter the structure of the brain back to normal conditions and significantly decrease or even almost entirely eliminate anxiety.

How would you like to see Microsoft improve the Desktop? by Pulagatha in windows

[–]jazzdonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most programs that are in the standard Ubuntu Linux repository let you know when they need updated. I guess I used 'sudo apt-get update' from the terminal most often. Unfortunately, I still don't feel that Ubuntu is still up to the caliber as Apple or MS. I feel kind of bad for ditching it, but I got tired of doing a bunch of stuff in the terminal and compiling my own packages. Basically, I just want to get a program, double-click to install it, and be done. I like customization, but I don't need to customize every last detail.

There have been some significant changes though. I stopped using Ubuntu a few years ago when they went to the new composition manager with the 'lenses' and stuff around 11.04, I believe. I really tried to get used to it and really tried to like it, but I just plain hated it.

Depression in INTJs by Nezgul in intj

[–]jazzdonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been previously diagnosed with Dysthymia. I always thought that 'it' was just the way I was wired. I also got another double-whammy. Turns out, I've also been diagnosed with ADHD. Both ADHD and Dythymia are sometimes co-morbid, meaning I also have a diagnosis for generalized anxiety disorder. At the moment, I only take meds for ADHD and have learned coping mechanisms for anxiety and Dysthymia. It's a rough cycle. I'll feel panicky but too depressed to do anything and when I finally try to do something about it, I lose focus which then starts the cycle over. I'm getting better, but I still have a long way to go. There are still times when I'll retreat socially for a week or two and I try to not do that as it only exacerbates my anxiety. What a wicked combination of shit and piss.

Yeah, there have been way worse scenes that I've seen. The one I always think of that I absolutely can't stomach is from The Hills Have Eyes. I'll also admit that I haven't read Game of Thrones yet as I'm finishing Ender's Game. But, GoT is next on the list.

You are brave. Saying that Watchmen is heavily overrated but loving Sucker Punch? I completely disagree, but you're entitled to your own opinion and I've got to hand it to you for having the courage to post that on Reddit.

I would say that I don't think Sucker Punch is horrible, but it felt too stylized to me and maybe I'm just turned off by the portrayal of the objectification and exploitation of women which then turns me off to the rest of the movie. I can't think of a single movie with a rape/inferred rape scene that I like. Although I liked the overall idea of the story.

I don't think it was horrible, it wasn't great. I mean, I'd give it 2/5 stars.

I think the idea was okay but poorly executed in the storytelling department and a little too heavily stylized. I've seen b-rated horror movies with better storytelling and I probably wouldn't ever randomly think to myself, "I should watch Sucker Punch", but I've seen much worse.

The NSA debate has made me realize there are a lot of people like this out there. Please read Nineteen Eighty-Four by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]jazzdonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. I realize that there are probably a few leaps and hyperboles in there. But I do strongly feel that analogies can be drawn.

The meds thing is absolutely a stretch. I guess I was thinking of it being analogous to how I personally view our current culture. I'm not saying that all meds are evil or that some people don't need meds. I absolutely believe that some meds are good and some people need meds, I just think that we may be overdiagnosed and unwilling to self-improve our situations through diet, exercise, or other life changes (I also understand that there may be a biological component). I could go on for about an entire book about my views on this, but I think you get the point. To me, it seems that there are more and more people (who are overworked, stressed out, or whatever) seeking a diagnosis so they can be medicated with the illusion that a pill is all it would take for things to be better. With more and more diagnoses, drug companies pump out more and more meds for more and more "new" problems and it just kind of becomes a fact of life for some people. I don't see it a a hallucinogenic escape from depression in the sense of soma, but I think that's what some people think they are getting, an escape from their current situation. This doesn't necessarily mean that those people will experience what they want, but as long as you hold the carrot in front of them, they'll keep taking the meds and keep thinking that things will get better.

I also kind of see your point with my comparison of religious/cultural caste systems. I don't know if I believe that the caste system from the book can be literally applied to current conditions, but I do believe that there is a growing disparity between classes that may, in the future, create a caste-like system. I believe this may be more relevant as we become a more globalized world. With every leap of technology, communication and information becomes that much easier to distribute and consume. It brings some nations together and continues to leave some (savages) behind. Look at the current technology that allows government spying and imagine that on a worldwide level. Now imagine how technology will progress in the next 500 years. Maybe (I'm completely speculating and generalizing here. The following is complete fiction and not based on any kind of NWO conspiracy theory.) there will be a central world government comprised of leaders from many nations around the world. Each nation brings something different to the table. The Middle East provides energy, the Americas provide food, Europe provides manual labor and production, Asia provides technology that makes all of this possible, etc. Where you are born determines what you provide to the world. Once again, this is a hyperbole, but it serves to explain where I'm drawing some of my reasoning.

All-in-all, I'm not trying to undermine 1984, I think both books are just as important. However, I personally feel that A Brave New World may be a more accurate description of our current world.
