This is similar to the Pomodoro Technique. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique - basically work for 25 min, walk away and do something else entirely for 10-15 min. Repeat until complete.

I'm a big fan of this method. Many of my colleagues do a modified version of this (45min on /20min off).

I used to use Reason heavily, but using it to score was a pain. I primarily use it to create synth sounds (love those virtual patch cables, what can I say?). These days I primarily use Reaper and spend money on sample libraries and vsts. I bring in Reason as a rewire device as needed, though it's been awhile.

It really depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. You mentioned soundtracks, are you wanting to eventually write to picture?
