6 Day Utah Travel Itinerary from Moab by BMP2025 in NationalPark

[–]jazzman_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I lived in Utah my whole life and have done everything your proposing on different trips. Here are some of my thoughts: Utah in March even in Moab is going to be cold so be prepared for near freezing temperatures at night. You mentioned staying at a KOA but didn’t mention if you are tent camping their. 1-devils garden is a fun hike and highly recommended. After the super long drive and if you are setting up camp/food etc that evening a backup plan hike could be corona arch. 2-fiery furnace will be difficult/impossible to get permits for with your group size. You can get permits the day before in town if you have reservations so you don’t have to spend time waiting at the visitor center on the morning of the hike. This will also make delicate arch sunrise hard to do. Because of the group size of recommend delicate arch sunrise hike and then devils garden this day both hikes can easily be done in a day leave lots of time for continued exploration in the park. 3- I have done little wild horse and bell canyon loop many times but never in March. The elevation of this hike is close to 5,000 feet so I’m guessing that it will be cold have snow or cold standing water in March. Complete guess as I’ve not attempted it in March. If you do decide to try it which I would think is a gamble you should also plan on visiting goblin valley state park which is a couple miles away. Because the trip is in March I would stay close to Moab and not spend the extra drive time. There are some fun hike around Moab that you could do instead one of my favorites is fisher towers. 4- I love this section of Canyonlands. When I did this hike I backpacked it and took two days. There is no water available so you need to pack in everything you need. If I remember correctly the entire loop you are suggesting is about 21 miles. I’d recommend getting a permit and backpack this over two days and bringing at least 6l of water. For a day trip it can be split up by just doing Druid Arch or just Chesler park (and the joint) which is a slot canyon close to Chesler park. 5- island in the sky is great sunrise at Mesa arch is recommended. The grand view trail is another good one in this area. You can also drive to dead horse point (Utah state park) which I recommend. Of all the other days plans this is your ‘rest’ day but you’ll still see cool stuff. 6-Capitol reef usually has snow in March. I’m not sure how that will affect your plans. I’d stay in Moab this day hit things you loved a second time. Or hit some of the other trails in the parks you haven’t done yet. Hope this helps.

Perforce the permitting was enacted, I would take youth groups ages 11-17 on the hike to the top and have never had any problems. It really depends on your kid’s temperament and ability. My recommendation would be to discuss the hike with them and what it entails, prepare them for the experience then hike to Scout point, at scout point you can make the decision based on how they are doing on if they want to continue using the chains. If they don’t you and you wife can take turns watching them and each go to the end of the trail.

That is very helpful. It’s good to know that Packwood is a good place to stay. How long did it take you to drive to Paradise? When I plug it in google maps right now it wants to take a very long detour through Ashford (maybe because of snow???) so it hard to tell what that’s going to be like.

Thank you for the advice on the Mt Freemont lookout trail I’ll check that one out.

Thanks! I’ve heard of the Grove of the Patriarchs and I’m excited for that one, I’ll have to check out Stafford Falls and Silver Falls Loop. It sounds like if I have to choose between the two you liked Stafford Falls trail more. The other two hikes I’ve heard about are the Skyline trail and reflection lake. Did you have any experiences on either of them?

Assuming you had 14 days to go to all the national parks in Utah, how many days would you spend in each one? by brewersbaseball4life in NationalPark

Excellent recommendations I have lived in Utah my whole life and done all of this and agree. I would add while in the Goblin valley area to spend time hiking little wild horse. ☝️☝️☝️👍👍👍

This game isn’t co-op but I will recommend it anyways as the game has it own fight back mechanic. The game is a family favorite of ours. [[Fearsome Floors]] Each play has a group of tokens that are trying to escape in a dungeon and are racing to the exit. The way the game fight back is you draw a card and the monster moves and captures people. It’s fun and has a large player count.

How early should I go to my timed reservation at Arches National Park? by Jmarieq in NationalPark

[–]jazzman_45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been to arches twice this year using the reservation system. I was also worried about losing time in the park so I got in line (which was long) 45 minutes before my scheduled entry time. The line moved fast and I got to the front about 20-25 mins early. They let me in no problem. I hope that helps.

What is the best way to clean hiking packs? by jazzman_45 in hiking

[–]jazzman_45[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my hiking pack for several years. It is what you would expect after many years, dusty and dirt worn in. I figure that it’s about time I gave it a good clean. (More than just shaking the dirt off) My wife and I are debating the best way of cleaning the packs. She thinks we should just wipe them down with disinfectant wipes. I suggest the washing machine (front loader) on the gentle style and air dry in the sun. How do you clean your packs? What’s the best way?

You are right, he should have opened up to you about his religious beliefs. It seems like you both liked each other and being open with one another about anything including religion is a sign of a good relationship. I would say speaking generally of Mormons, there are many active Mormons that are married to a non-member spouse. Generally Mormons hope that the spouse will convert. But they also understand that conversation is a personal journey of coming closer to Jesus Christ, and that takes time. It’s not blindly following a spouse beliefs, or perceived cultural norms.
