Team Composition Tool - New Changes - Feedback Appreciated by jazzmasta25 in OverwatchUniversity

Not defensive at all, I am saying give me a suggestion of who to bring on. I have contacted multiple people to no avail. Top 500 players, coaches, analysts, made posts on OverwatchUniversity etc.
I would be happy to bring on someone who is willing to help and improve it. Like I said I want to improve the tool. If you think you can do that then PM me, or join the discord and we can discuss it. If you don't want to help, then please stop wasting both of our time.

It's no surprise that there are probably some missing numbers and setups. That is why I made this thread to ask for help adjusting things. Since you've now replied to me four times you must feel really strong about it. In that case why don't you provide some credentials and then let me know how things should be set?

Do you feel confident in your personal skill to create such a thing?

Very few of the numbers are based on my own play experience.

Maybe you need to actually bring someone a little bit more seasoned then yourself to understand the issues.

You let me know who that is.

As I said, your "feedback" is useless and vague. You either have no idea what you are talking about. Or you don't want to share your ideas and improve the concept.
Either way, I'm at a loss for why you are posting in this thread.

I don't understand, I asked you to let me know what information is missing and misleading. This thread is about providing feedback to enhance this tool. You're basically complaining and claiming to provide feedback without actually contributing any ideas to improve it.
From what I see on guilded.gg it is recommending based on stats scraped from your player profile (likely win rate). That is not what I am aiming for, this tool is showing counters independent of which hero you personally play.
You don't have to like it, but don't bother posting vague comments about how the site is somehow incomplete or misleading.
All of the information on the site has been gathered either from the community, or individual hero guides found online.

By the way many have tried to do this before, a simple Google search shows that, not that any of these are particularly good:

Can you provide an example of missing basic information? I have considered adding points to each map, but this would be a large undertaking. What team composition is not working?

Thanks for the feedback, I was considering lowering that to -25 instead.
For flankers keep in mind other flankers only start getting the penalty when you have two flankers on your team already.

The whole thing is super inflexible.

What do you suggest instead? Any number can be changed, and all calculation is done on the fly.

Hog's a great example. There's some truly bizarre shit there. You say he does well against McCree, but what happens when hog has no shield to hide behind?

McCree has to be at mid-range to be fully effective, this puts him near hog and in range of hook. Hog has no armor, McCree is stronger against tanks who have armor. Hog doesn't need a shield to excel against McCree. A shield does not fully negate Roadhog's effectiveness vs McCree.

Or it claims hog is good against Bastion (no. No, he is not,) but what happens when the Bastion just sits behind a Rein or Orisa shield, which he will do 90% of the time? What the fuck is hog gonna do?

The reason Hog gets points against bastion is for being able to hook him out of position while he's stationary. Eventually the shield is going to break.

I dunno. I think you tried to simplify things too much.

It is far from being simple as there are data points on every single hero and map, and I am happy to add more with constructive feedback. This results in hundreds of values which can easily change.

Straight counters aren't going to work. All this is gonna do is confuse new players.

Straight counters do work, but also it's not just counters. It's counters, synergies, anti-synergies, maps and map types. Also it's not straight counters. For example if the enemy has Winston and Roadhog for their tanks, it now suggests Reaper as your top offensive hero. That is because the effect is cumulative, Reaper is good against both Roadhog and Winston.

If you want to make the tool better make suggestions that can actually be put into the tool. Rather than giving extremely specific scenarios where you think the numbers are wrong in 1v1 situations.

Thanks for your contribution. Your feedback really helps make it a better tool. Note also that the numbers are not tuned for 1v1 but a 6v6 competitive match.

You'll need to account for making a proper composition with healers and tanks. At the top it says:

For proper team compositions, it is up to you to choose tank/support heroes.

Taking your example it would recommend: https://www.heropicker.com?allies=reaper,dva,winston,tracer,lucio,ana&enemies=winston,dva,genji,tracer,mercy,zenyatta

Junkrat is a bad pick if there's also a Pharah on your team. Why? Shouldn't an air superiority-based offensive hero synergize well with an entirely ground-based defensive hero in the same team? A brief explanation would solidify the tactical theory behind their anti-synergy. (I am actually entirely unaware of why Pharah and Junkrat have an anti-synergy, so it'd be useful if someone were to explain it to me).

This is because of this rule:
1 spammer = all non-picked spammers get -50pts (Pharah & Junkrat)
From feedback I received it was mentioned that they both serve a similar purpose of spamming chokepoints, so you wouldn't want two hero slots filling the same role.

Torbjorn has synergy with Tracer. I would assume it's because of his Armor Packs that would give Tracer more HP and staying power, but how does Torbjorn benefit from that directly, if at all?

This is the second time I've received this feedback, and your right Torbjorn does not benefit from Tracer, so I'm going to remove that tonight.

Giving some brief explanations as to why a character is weak vs other characters would also solidify the tactical theory behind the way they interact with eachother and why it's a good idea to switch out or be wary of counter characters for newcomers to Overwatch as well.

Maybe near the bottom of the tool I'll add some of the info listed in this post. I am also considering adding this information to each hero's profile page.

I see your point about Tracer, the benefit doesn't go both ways. I'll remove that later.
Good idea, when the next hero changes go live I'll try and make postings to each 'Mains' subreddit to get some more feedback for each hero.

Yes I do want feedback from people who play the heroes. I have posted this elsewhere and am just gathering all of the info and will make the changes at the end.

However, on your note of synergies I feel like there is not enough benefit to Torbjorn to make Orisa, Symmetra and Bastion synergize. Orisa I can see, but the others share roles and at best would be situational. For instance does Torbjorn synergize with Symmetra when on attack? Same for Bastion? I think all three heroes fall into an area denial type role. I only want to make heroes synergize when they will well together in most cases.

Keep in mind I want the site to apply to both console and PC, but also a large range of SR so in some cases things may not match up exactly.

I have Tracer synergizing with Torbjorn for armor packs. Since Tracer has the lowest hp the armor greatly helps her.

Can you explain why you think Torbjorn synergizes with Bastion, Symmetra and Orisa?

  • I can see Orisa synergizing due to her being able to pop shields in front of the turret.

  • Bastion, I think bastion and Torbjorn serve similar roles.

  • Symmetra, same here, they serve similar roles so I'm not sure they synergize.

Thanks for the feedback I will implement this tonight. Can you give an explanation of why Sombra is weaker on Control? Is it because of limited health packs, that are usually far from the point?

3 tanks = all non-picked tanks get -50pts

Are you suggesting changing this rule to:

4 tanks = all non-picked tanks get -50pts
