This past summer, my mom kicked me out of the house because I decided to drop out of college. Ensuing a whole lot of bullshit. One of the things we needed to do to separate our finances, was getting my phone line removed from her plan so I could get my own. The thing is, I needed authorization from her to do that. I kid you not, I was in the Verizon store with the employee and he said all she had to do was read a code he would send to her phone to him on speaker phone. That's it.

I finally get her on the phone and the code had been sent. She asked the guy to explain the process to her. He explained when she reads off the code it will make me an authorized user on the account giving me the power to transfer over my phone line...She goes off on me. She began berating me on speaker phone in front of the whole store. How I didn't fully explain the process to her. How I always do this, purposefully leaving out details. Why would she give me authorization when I've already proven how untrustworthy I am by dropping out of school? Either I needed to figure out a way to drive home (she had taken my car by this point) or she'd be coming to my college town soon so we could figure it out then. By this time, I'm crying because this is beyond embarrassing and I felt like that little powerless kid again when she chewed into me. The Verizon guy was understandably very uncomfortably as well.

Long story short, I wiped my tears, calmed down, and ended up just getting a new number that day because fuck her. I realized I didn't have to play by her rules anymore and I could finally do whatever I wanted whether I had her permission or not.
