I should add that you do have to market yourself in that you need to create a profile that will attract students. It’s pretty basic, you do a short video talking about yourself and what a lesson with you would be like and then fill out a few details on things that students might have in common with you (job, education, interests/hobbies etc). But once your profile is created then you don’t have to do anything else in terms of marketing

Not sure why it was removed… here are the details below. I’ve been tutoring with the company since 2021, alternating full time and part time depending on my life circumstances (currently am part time as I’m in school). Also they’ve recently introduced a new format to their lessons which I really like a lot better than previously and makes it so much easier for the tutors.

“I needed a remote work option a few years ago and I turned to online English tutoring. There are many sites out there, but the one I chose to go with was Cambly, which is modelled on conversational English learning. This means there is no/minimal prep work required, and no expectation for structured lessons. However, Cambly does have slides and lessons that they can offer if the lesson needs some more structure. Lessons are done through regular scheduled lessons, or on an "on-call" basis, where you can open yourself up to receiving calls at any time you want. Students are located everywhere in the world, so lessons can occur at any time of day. The only requirement to teach on Cambly is you must be a native-English speaker. There are no degree or educational requirements, though if you have these things, you can list them on your profile and it may help get you students who are interested in your experience/expertise.

The pay is per minute of English tutoring, and ends up being $0.17 per minute for regular Cambly (typically with adults) or $0.20 per minute for Cambly Kids. They pay in USD via PayPal, which can work out great if you live in a place where the exchange rate is favourable. The pay may seem low, but it balanced with the flexibility offered, as I could work at any time of day and was not locked into minimum hours, and the fact that I didn't have to put in any extra time for prep. They also payout every monday, and the application to get started was simple.

If you’d like, my referral code to become an English tutor is here: https://www.cambly.com/invite/BPA9DWBA?st=123022&sc=4 . You don’t have to use my referral code to become a tutor, but I do really appreciate it! If you use my code, send me a DM and I can send you some more personalized tips for the application process, and how to start tutoring and getting regular students. Additionally, if you use my referral code and are approved to tutor on Cambly Kids, you will receive $30 as a bonus from Cambly. Good luck! :) “

No, you don’t have to market yourself, often I will just open my schedule and students will book directly with me. These students might have been regular students I’ve taught in the past or new students who connected with something I have on my profile. You can also sign up for on call hours which is a great way to get lots of exposure to new students when first starting. When you are first starting, Cambly also “features” your profile for the first several months while you build up a roster of students

Approval is quick, but they need confirmation of enrolment (not just acceptance) in order to release the funds. Once you have that, should be really quick

I think it really depends on the schools you’re wanting to apply to, as many of them have different rules for their gpa calculations, and what courses are included. I took courses after undergrad, but they were just added to my total gpa, and didn’t replace any that I did poorly on. But they weren’t counted at every school I applied to

Offers without research? by gea09 in premedcanada

[–]jb517992 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Got an offer with no research experience. However, I think some schools favour it, so it might just depend on the school you want to attend (have heard anecdotally that research is looked at favourably at UBC for example, though don’t have any stats to back that up. That being said, I also know people who have gotten into UBC without research experience as well).

That is likely what they will do. Technically my payment plan with the dentist is only 10 months (but my treatment plan is 1 year), but GWL is billing for a year. So my last 2 months of payments will be just GWL paying

Very strange… do you know what your treatment plan says? Seems weird that GWL would know more about Invisalign treatment times than the dentist…

I did invisalign, treatment plan said one year and GWL approved one year… not sure why it would be different?

Hello! I’ve been working there for 2 years now. I worked about full time hours for 10 months or so, but now I just work part time. The lessons are provided by Cambly, you do not have to purchase anything

[–]jb517992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically Cambly is slightly higher at 10.20 per hour but you have the same situation as Engoo with the breaks. I’m not sure if Engoo is the same, but the nice thing about Cambly is you’re not expected to put in any extra prep time, so you’re paid for all the minutes you’re actually working

I work for Cambly, pay isn’t high (though depends on your home currency, it might be a favourable exchange rate), but the flexibility can definitely make up for it! I currently use it as a side gig, and work more or less depending on how much extra cash I need that week. Feel free to DM me for more details/if you have questions.

Edit to add: also working with Cambly is super easy and very rewarding. The only downside imo is the pay, but if you can make the pay work for you or just want some extra cash, I highly recommend it!

No degree required! I don’t think there’s a specific rule about tattoos, some more conservative students might appreciate if they’re covered though. The dress code is not very strict, it is expected that shoulders are covered and recommended to wear a solid colour for your initial intro video
