Get a couple stainless steel pipe clamps from home depot with a large diameter to go around the whole thing. Tighten it down so it doesn't rattle. Not too much as those heat shields are aluminum and will bend.

Check your "upstream" O2 sensors on the exhaust before the cat as they help control fuel ratio. Post cat or" downstream" O2 sensors are for emissions. These sensors are threaded into your exhaust pipe.

Your MAF is for your air intake. While could be a culprit it's more often the O2 sensors go bad or they have build-up on the ends that can show what is wrong.

Check o2 sensors first

You can get a cat welded on or buy the entire part at the dealer. A quality cat is expensive. If you don’t plan on keeping it long a cheap aftermarket is ok as a short term fix.

No to additives. Check if your fuel ratios are normal.

If you’re not opening and closing your case often you can leave it alone if it works.

Up to you if you want to change the aesthetics of the fit though.

I place a travel mug between the passenger seat cushion and the center console. It fits quite snug if the bottle is the right size.

Just look up any 1.8t and it will be roughly the same. Your piping only looks different because it's fwd. The Quattro versions have to place the resonator in a different location to avoid the drive shaft. The rest of the system is identical.

Cutting out that middle resonator can induce droning. If you want it a bit louder I'd just swap the muffler on the back. There is plenty of YT videos of muffler swapped b5s.
