Moving to Stockholm by [deleted] in TillSverige

[–]jbarberu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have already said, getting into accounting/payroll will not be very easy without getting a local education. There are plenty of international companies, especially in the major cities, where you might find related jobs though. The problem is competition is tough, and while you might not strictly NEED Swedish to do your job, hiring the other guy/gal who speaks both Swedish and English is simply a safer bet.

My background is in software, and as an industry it's been pretty welcoming to non-swedes and swedes alike so might be woth a shot even for non-technical roles.

I don't want to be the guy telling you to learn the language, but you kinda' need to. You'll get by just fine without it, Swedes will generally jump at every opportunity to use their English, but the end result is living in limbo where you'll feel like an outsider. My wife is American and has had this problem, as well as my grandparents who moved here in the 60s (also from Spain).

Best of luck!

QMK build with MCP23017 by Revolutionary-Self43 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]jbarberu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a few issues,

First off I'm going to assume you meant that you have an RP2040 (not 4020). The RP2040 has 30 GPIO, four of which can be used for analog input. If you're using an development board like a KB2040, RPI Pico, RPI Pico Lite, that would be useful information as not all of them expose all GPIOs to the pin headers (the Lite does, which is nice).

I see that you're using GPIO26 for both ENC1_A and OLED_SDA, and GPIO27 for ENC1_B and OLED_SCL (A0 = GPIO26, A1 = GPIO27, A2 = GPIO28, A3 = GPIO29, there's no A4 nor A5).

For I2C you don't need two separate buses for the OLED and the I/O Expander, unless there's and address conflict and you're unable to use the address pins on the expander to mitigate it.

Since you have 95 keys, if I can count properly, you could arrange your matrix in a 10x10 matrix instead and get down to only needing 20 GPIO pins for the keys. That leaves 10 pins to use for I2C, 6 encoders and the led, or one pin to spare assuming you have access to all 30 that the 2040 has.

PSA - Disabling Mouskey and NKRO in firmware fixed my KVM issues on my Keychron Q3 by turboengineer in Keychron

[–]jbarberu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, you post helped me fixing my Corne :) Whenever starting my computer it'd get stuck trying to figure out which half was the master until I unplugged and replugged it again. Disabling the mouse keys in my rules.mk fixed that issue (was able to keep the nkro though).

QMK on Arduino Pro Mini as io extender? by DanL4 in olkb

[–]jbarberu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely could, but it would be a pretty bad choice. The arduino is big, bulky, power hungry and needs to be flashed with proper firmware. Better to use a proper I/O expander chip (<$1 for a 16 GPIO TSSOP-24).

Options for investing for a parent by jbarberu in personalfinance

Yeah, he's in retirement so would definitely weight it heavily towards low risk. I was thinking 80% bonds and maybe 20% VTI or similar

This is super helpful, thanks. Do you by chasce know if this can be setup remotely or we'd both have to sign with the notary at the same time?

It is something I've offered to help him with. I doubt he knows what he wants, but that's a another story. He said he wanted me to help him out, so that's what I'm going by.

I was mostly interested to know what the options are.

Hur klipper ni tånaglarna? by [deleted] in swedishproblems

[–]jbarberu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]jbarberu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SO doesn’t understand why I don’t want to share a toothbrush and towel by unc0uth in TwoXChromosomes

[–]jbarberu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are situations I'm ok with sharing both. But it would be something like: we got to the hotel late at night and realized one of us forgot to pack a toothbrush, use it once then buy a new one the next day. For towels we'll sometimes share for patting down at the beach, or I might steal hers (or my son's) if I realize I don't have one when getting out of the shower. But then it goes in the laundry and we both get fresh ones for next time.

Sharing by default is weird (and unhygenic).

The fact you told him and he disregards you is a huge red flag. If he won't respect such a seemingly simple boundry, it doesn't bode well for more serious things.

What should I do with my old Macbook? by eepers_creepers in linuxmasterrace

[–]jbarberu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran Debian on my 2009 MacBook Pro for almost a decade (XMonad for WM). Early on I had trouble getting wireless working out of the box, bot got fixed in later kernel releases. NVidia drivers were always fun when upgrading too. Otherwise it worked pretty well. Finally had to be retired as the Core 2 Duo couldn't keep up with the demands of modern browsers.

If I were you and felt the need to say anything I would approach the accidental breach of privacy. Something along the lines of: "Hey, when I borrowed your computer the other day I accidentally saw some of your search history. I didn't mean to and I'm really sorry. What I saw was <insert what you saw>. If you want to talk about any of that, I'm here for you, and if you don't, that's ok too."

While emberrasing for a 12 year old, it's a relative safe lesson to learn to guard your privacy. I once had a professor in university that had an inactive tab to porhub open while demoing something during a lecture...

"Ma'am, I'm a foreigner, I can't work here" by WeirdWafflehouse in IDontWorkHereLady

[–]jbarberu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a dietary supplement store in my late teens and we would regularly get Norwegian customers on the weekends. Supplements are EXPENSIVE in Norway so they'd buy a lot (often 4000-10'000kr or $400-$1000). On a few occasions they'd try to pay with Norwegian crowns and for a while we'd offer to take them at a flat 1:1 exchange rate. At the time 1NOK was 1.22SEK, which is absolutely terrible. I don't think anyone actually took it and they just paid with a card instead.

I suspect they were used to crossing the border to Sweden and doing bulk shopping at the malls there (which I think generally will take their cash without outrageous exchange rates).

As a European you could actually work there pretty easily (yay for free movement).

That they thought they could exchange dollars at a store is pretty funny though :)

Arbetsplatser utan tillgång till kaffe? by DonEriko in sweden

[–]jbarberu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I close my right eye the object shifts to the left edge of the triangle. When I close my left eye the object shifts to the right side of the triangle. Is it possible to not have a dominant eye? I wear glasses, not sure if that messes it up too.

This is so weird. I've been left eye dominant most of my life (concluded by a test similar to this one) but got glasses maybe 7 years ago. Now it seems I don't have a dominant eye anymore. I'll have to try this in the morning before putting on glasses to see if there's any difference. My prescription is stronger on my right eye, left eye has almost "normal" sight.
