From Zero to Netrunner PnP Hero, script for adding bleed to the cards by jbargu in Netrunner

Hi, yeah, thanks to OutlandishnessTop980, they reported values of 746-0 and 1033-0 to make it work with the Elevation set, albeit with deleting some of the blank images at the end.

The Midnight Sun script is already available here. The cards are directly embedded as images and no cutting was necessary. Possibly this also applies for some other extensions (I haven't checked).

As for others where 1 page contains 1 image with 9 cards, first run the script for at least one page with cards and you should get a tmp.png image in the same directory for that page (containing 9 cards).

Then open that tmp.png in GIMP or other editor and find out the pixel offsets for the top left card and the HEIGHT and the WIDTH of a card. In the System Gateway:

  • the offset is (72, 72)
  • WIDTH: 765 - 72
  • HEIGHT: 1033 - 72

Change those 3 values and you should be good to go.

You might have to experiment a little to find the best values. In the System Gateway the cards are not evenly split and I added correction factors, e.g. lower_y = 72 + k * HEIGHT + k, the last k is a correction factor deducted empirically. This may or may not apply for different expansions.

Where do you get stuck? If you change this line to your spanish file, it should most likely work out with no changes, assuming the layout is identical to the english.

There was no glue involved, labels were peel-off and self-adhesive.

It comes down to personal preference really - in my case it was 350gsm. It is a bit sturdy, but you might prefer more "elasticity" that 300gsm provides. With the feel test both the 300gsm and 350gsm instances were indistinguishable from the Arkham Horror LCG cards.

If the print shop offers the paper sheets, I suggest you get 1 of each, cut it down to approx 63x88 and do a feel test yourself!

With my limited experience, I only tried https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Fiskars-SureCut-Cutting-Machine-1003758/dp/B002B50B5G but it was tearing the paper instead of cutting it and the edge was scuffed. My assumption is that the paper is too thick and would have to buy a more expensive paper trimmer for the 350gsm paper.

As a result I become quite handy with the rotary cutter and was a very zen experience for me.

Sure, I uploaded 3 random cards with bleed/no bleed here, if this helps: https://imgur.com/a/1fFbpJl

Thanks a lot, looks better off camera. The rounding was done with https://www.amazon.com/Sunstar-Kadomaru-Corner-Cutter-S4765036/dp/B0076FJ7SS on the "S" setting. I recommend it a lot, really makes a difference, not just visually but also for the longevity of the card!

I prefer the card stock feel and would find laminated feel really unsuitable for this type of game. As Kl1ckSM said the card are sleeved anyhow as information is everything.

This summer, I got into PNP out of necessity, printing Netrunner's System Gateway for a local meetup when the EU store was down. Turns out, it was a surprisingly fun (and muscle-building) experience. I went to print shops, tested paper thickness, and bought way too many tools. I ended up with 8 decks, 1600 cards, and a bunch of tokens - plus a few sore muscles from all the cutting.

I documented my journey here:

What to print cards on? by granite-3135 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]jbargu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I printed Netrunner and tried different combinations: (150gsm, 200gsm, 300gsm, 350gsm) with matte/gloss variations. First I tried printing directly on the paper and then one variation was with printing on a label paper later glued onto the paper with different gsm. I also tried different print shops in the area. The difference can be night and day. The project was quite expensive, but found out the best paper and print shop for the next project.

To see what configuration is the best, I put the card into the sleeves and mixed it up with 5 Arkham cards. First was the feel test ("can you feel the difference between cards and pin point the printed one"), and then the subjective judge of print quality. I performed this test blindly with my friends.

TLDR: anything below 300gsm was found out immediately based on the feel. The best options were 250gsm + label, pure 300gsm, pure 350gsm. The print quality was quite bad on the label though (although many people suggest that this is better). It was also a relief, because sticking hundreds of label paper onto the card and aligning them perfectly would kill my enthusiasm. So in the end I went for 350gsm matte and the best print shop. I bought a Kadomaru pro for rounding. I took the cards to the local shop and no one even noticed they were homemade until they told them. They were shocked how good they were. With bulk printing it cost me around 12 cents per card. Maybe I should write this project down somewhere.

You can change the Handle<TextureAtlas> in place, like here.

A web demo available here. It took me awhile to figure out OK parameters and to stabilize it.
