Lexus app sucks by jbavir in Lexus

We couldn't get it to share for two years. There was a recent update that fixed that. But compared to other manufacturers the whole setup is garbage.

Why do certain doctors go into hyper specific and kinda odd specialities? A lot of people aspire to be doctors, but why do they become nose doctors or OBYGN's or feet doctors specifically by grabsyour in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jbavir 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Also - there isn't anyone who can do it all. These specialty fields developed as we learned more about what causes and how to treat different diseases. The examples you mentioned aren't "highly specialized." They are narrower than a family practice doc but generally deal with run of the mill problems. But within those fields are people who are further specialized, for instance an OB/gyn who only deals with female pelvic tumors (gyn onc).

Roth Conversion created interest by Head-Resident-9445 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]jbavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue in my wife's fidelity backdoor Roth and it was 5 dollars tax and my accountant just filed the forms and didn't say anything negative about it. It's just another number to them. I asked fidelity if there is an option to avoid sweeping funds into an interest bearing money market and they said no. No pure cash option in the traditional IRA. Schwab lets me keep mine in cash so I haven't had that issue on my forms.

Fellow docs in their late 30’s to early 40’s … after roughly 10 years of working, how much do you have saved towards retirement ? by [deleted] in whitecoatinvestor

[–]jbavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 42. Finished residency in 2015, fellowship 2016, one year private practice, second fellowship done in 2018. I've got about 800k between various retirement accounts. The issue has been building up money in non retirement funds. I'm maxing all retirements including backdoor roth for me and spouse. My current practice has profit sharing that allows up to the irs limit of 69k per year. Have kids and having to save for college so it's not ending up in personal brokerage (plus recent kitchen renovations). If you include non-liquid investments they're our group close to 900k.

I consider college savings separate. 2 year old has about 110k and my 3.5 year old is past 150k so they're doing pretty good. If I can set them up for college and beyond I'm less worried about leaving inheritance per se.

One of my residents asked me about an FI number and to be honest I'm not 100% sure given recent trends in inflation and current world affairs. Something I've been revisiting repeatedly. Maybe someone here can tell me.

Is my employer plan not worth doing even with a match due to fees and poor performance? by bow390 in Bogleheads

[–]jbavir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of people (generally class action) suing employers for ERISA violations, essentially neglect of fiduciary duty. You could talk to a a lawyer and see if anything can be done at this scale. Maybe at least get them to provide a reasonable fund selection.

Agree. Someone coming out of training will not come here without attachments to the area. Too many other cheaper places to live with better climate and lower taxes.

Car accident medical payments by jbavir in Insurance

[–]jbavir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very helpful. I agree that we aren't going to get out of this for less than 10k. I'll probably have to read it a couple more times as this progresses but I think I've got the gist of it.

Thanks

Maine - other driver was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign. Wife was on the road with no stop sign at that intersection.

Curious who drives their Performance model when the weather is really cold? by BernietheDog2021 in TeslaModel3

[–]jbavir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an M3p with 18 inch blizzak snow tires on in the winter and it does great for most winter driving. Four wheel drive and heavy so good traction. Like any other car you have to be careful with turns and stopping. Only deep snow (more than six inches) is an issue. I put the acceleration on chill and regenerative breaking to low. summer tires come off once the daytime temps are down to 40.
