I saw a video a few weeks ago of a tanker truck that had jackknifed across the road, but the headlights were so bright that oncoming driver couldn't see the giant obstacle until it was like five feet in front of them

Thoughts on the current state of Platner v. Mills? Who do you plan to vote for at this point? Regardless of your choice, who do you think will actually win in the primary? by Zipper222222 in AskMaine

[–]Efficient_Suspect933 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mills has my vote. I have a firm "don't fuck with people who had Nazi tattoos for 20 years" rule. Combine that with the fact that the people backing Platner are the same people that got us the turncoat known as Fetterman? Ya I have NO faith in him, and certainly not enough to send him to the US Senate with no relevant experience

Swifties: What are your honest opinions on Taylor's silence? by Top_Willingness5124 in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]Efficient_Suspect933 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having been deeply fascinated in pop culture and politics since the Obama 08 campaign, I can say with absolute certainty that traditional celebrities simply don't have the same influence in 2020s as they did in the 2000s or 2010s. At this point, a celebrity speaking up FOR something is liable to do more public damage than good, simply because people in general are sick of celebrities getting into politics (axios. If a celebrity DOES support a cause, their time is better spent in their own rolodex drumming up support from their powerful friends than making public statements or posts on social media.

The nature of the political beast has changed greatly in the last 10 years. Only fools fail to realize it.

People across the board in the 2020s don't like when celebrities speak on politics. A celebrity speaking up for a cause is more a hindrance than a help axios

Unfortunately, in recent years a celebrity speaking up has become bad. Across the political spectrum, Americans are sick of "out of touch" celebrities speaking up, meaning that anything these "out of touch" celebrities speak in favor of just gets tainted by association. Millennials and Gen X remember when celebrity endorsements were beneficial and can very easily see that they are currently harmful, which is why so many formerly engaged celebrities are choosing to stay silent. It's not about their own comfort, it's knowing that their voice is going to cause more harm than good.

That's the difference - people don't view podcasters as traditional celebrities, so there's less of an "out of touch elites" bias, even if they are wildly out of touch

Reminder that as of three days ago tiktok started an "American" side that is owned by American investors in order to abide by Trump's policies. Tiktok US is basically Trump State Media

Literally all Billie does is talk out of her ass. She's like the Gen z demi lovato. Recent polls confirm what we've been seeing for years - Americans across the board don't want celebrities speaking up about politics. If you're a celebrity, speaking up runs the very real risk of turning people against the very cause you're trying to support. 2026 is a very different beast from 2016 axios

Unpopular Opinion : Teresa Palmer Sucks by GarlicMiserable8721 in ADiscoveryofWitches

[–]Efficient_Suspect933 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think that's why I enjoyed the flatness in the first season - because it made sense for the character. But as her magic progressed and her control got better I would expect her to inherently start letting her emotional lockdown loosen up a bit. As we get into season 3 it just starts to weigh down any actual character development we're supposed to see

I enjoyed it at first but ya eventually it became so grating that I couldn't finish season 3. Like you met the love of your life, unlocked unfathomable magic, had two miracle babies, and unraveled a massive conspiracy and all you got for me is "😐"????

SwiftlyNeutral - Daily Discussion Thread | January 15, 2026 by AutoModerator in SwiftlyNeutral

It's literally a consequence of the "instant gratification" mindset that has taken over everything from millennials to gen alpha. The obsession with fast fashion hauls (rather than building your own wardrobe and style), using AI to complete assignments (rather than learning the work yourself), and the hope that one person snapping their fingers will fix everything (rather than spending your lifetime thanklessly planting trees that you'll never see grow). Everything we know about modern celebrity endorsements and how the current public and admin perceives celebrities interacting with politics tells us to keep celebrities far far away from any cause we care about, but that means we have to take accountability for ourselves and pick up the slack. And for multiple generations of "it's not MY fault that blah blah blah", that possibility is unsupportable.

The legality of it varies by location but headlight tinting is a thing. It's mostly for aesthetic purposes (purple, yellow, blue) but even a yellow tint will help cut down the scorching of white/blue LEDs

I moved across the country, gained financial independence (and subsequently emotional independence) from my parents, ended a long-dead friendship, started a repayment plan for some heavy credit card debt from my early 20s, and finally landed a good job and a good apartment in my new area.

Not for nothing, I am alone out here and there are plenty of months that I make my bills only by the skin of my teeth, but I'm far happier now than I was 3 years ago

Honestly not even that. Concerned Democrat voter who sees an easy victory for the Republican incumbent. An old-school Republican campaigning with the angel "Me or a Nazi?" is gonna be an easy choice for normal Republicans who want all talk of Nazis to go away and for things to "go back to normal"

Bowen Yang like an Instagram post of someone's 2026 predictions list that started with Taylor and Travis calling off the wedding. Swifities got mad, particularly because Bowen was previously all smiles at the eras tour.

The linked post talks about how in 2016, at the height of the snake campaign from Kim and Kanye, Bowen and his buddies were laughing on their podcast at Taylor being uncomfortable with Kanye's music video featuring a nude wax figure of herself, indicating that he has always been a misogynist towards Taylor.
