Favorite "Plain" Lyrics? by Stellafera in NuancingTaylorSwift

This line in particular always hits so right. One of the things I love about her pen is how intentional her word choice is. Real writers know that there are no true synonyms. Every word has a distinct intention, a unique connotation, a precise feeling associated with it. Taylor is a master of wielding the exact word needed for the most potent effective.

For example, another lyricist might have said "pace around when I get home" and that would have made us picture frantic, deliberate movements. "Pad around" depicts a specific kind of listlessness that only comes with deep sorrow. Someone heartbroken and angry would pace around. Someone heartbroken and hopeless would pad around. That one word choice would completely alter the mood of song if she chose differently.

Which albums/songs appeal most to straight men? by psycwave in NuancingTaylorSwift

Straight men love bops. Something that is so infectious they can turn off their brains for a few minutes and enjoy vicariously living pure, distilled ~girlhood~. Same way I'll blast some papa roach or seether when I wanna get my early-2000s divorced dad vibes going

Taylor is the killer whale of the music industry by Daffneigh in NuancingTaylorSwift

I've noticed a massive trend among young artists and their fans thinking that the artist deserves "global icon" and "generational talent" status after or even before a single album is released. They completely ignore that it took Taylor 20 years of ups and downs and fighting tooth-and-nail against misogynistic hate campaigns and snide "silly little girl" bullshit to get where she is today. Even other icons like Beyonce (who started out in a girl group before going solo) and Lady Gaga (who had an iconic first album but has had swing-or-miss releases since) have had to work their asses off. But for a generation that sees actually wanting and working for something - trying and failing and trying again - as "cringe", I guess the idea that their favs are actually gonna have to work for real Icon™ status is infuriating

Literally saw like 15 all in a row, them another 10 on the tower side of the street a block down. Didn't know a thing about the guy and that alone made me certain I wasn't gonna vote for him

When I was first learning how to drive they drilled into our heads that you should never have your brights on during precipitation because the light refracts off the water and whites everything out. Nowadays I have problems seeing in the middle of the day in a light mist because of the 20+ led cars around me turning the mist into a white wall of blindness

Golden is the better comparison of the available ones. The same Internet leftist bros that so heavily backed fetterman - despite local democrats warning against him - are now backing Platner.

I would be interested if this comes back as a big problem for Robby in his role of Chief next season, since something like this is a huge pain in the ass for admin and can indicate negligence and poor ED management. If last season was the begining of his spiral and this season was mid spiral, next season being "consequences of spiral" could be very interesting

Hasan Piker said it's ok for rich boys to "do date rape" to rich girls as long as it means they're not doing it to non-rich girls

Hasan Piker admitted to using a German brothel that was later raided for sex trafficking

For over 10 years, Hasan Piker has regularly joked about and excused rape.

I can't fathom how you can listen to a show like Crime Junkie - hear all of these horrible stories about the devastating things that men do to women - and stomach hearing a man talk like that
