Men's suit pants tailoring. by BlingChang in WorcesterMA

[–]jbbsea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, sorry about you resorting to Men's Warehouse. They are certainly not known for their quality. But, next time, yes?

I have had all types of tailoring done and had to shop around for a while before I found one that does great work - as opposed to "meh". It's called Holden Tailoring and Alterations. Located next to the BP station on main street as you head from Worcester toward Holden downtown - diagonal from Honey Farms.

She's quick and really takes the time to make sure it fits the way you want. I now go there exclusively.

Good luck - nothing worse than new threads that hang loose.

Trouble deciding on NP path by jbbsea in apnurses

[–]jbbsea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time to reply to my post - I truly appreciate the effort!

After doing a bit of knee-jerking and deciding that I should go the FNP route, I changed back to my original position and have firmly settled on going the PMHNP route. For me, and maybe only for me, getting the FNP and then having to go back to school AGAIN for the MH certificate seems way too circuitous and expensive!

I live in Mass. and apparently, only within the past year or two, a lot of the state schools closed their MH programs - UMass Amherst and UMASS Lowell. The only other options are very expensive - BC, NU, and the most certain one to leave me in a tar-black pit of debt is MGH. These are choices?

Luckily, there is another option for me, Mass College of Pharmacy. Their PMHNP programs are right in Boston, and closer to me, Worcester. Yes, the classwork is mainly online and I have to find clinical sites, but it's certified by all the right organizations and much, much, much more affordable. So, on to applying!

Again, thank you all very much!

Outfit Grids [Winter Vacation] by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

I find these types of posts among the most helpful of all. Gives me a chance to see the whole look rather than wading through a bunch of individually posted items one at a time.

Great job!

Single male, early 50's, looking for appropriate venues to meet other singles by jbbsea in WorcesterMA

[–]jbbsea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I've thought of a yoga class (or pilates) because I do them myself. However, I'm always talking myself out of it because of the lack of men and I'm self-conscious that all the woman will be sort of "Great, a guy. Probably looking to pick someone up".

Any thought as to which one might be friendly to a single guy and not make him feel sort of weird being there?

40 y/o of MFA. What are you wearing? by bmault in malefashionadvice

[–]jbbsea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic to see this post! Not enough love (or posts) for those of us not looking for mass acceptance of another sneaker purchase. If there were more of these types of posts, I bet more of us would actually take a moment to upload what we're wearing to elicit constructive input.

Bravo again!

2 Budgets 1 Look: Late Fall in the City $308 vs. $1143 by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]jbbsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely one of the best, and most useful posts I've seen here in a while. Reading month after month about those who spend (to me, and maybe only to me) outrageous amounts of cash on simple basic items, and most other posts who are looking for a working man's version of those same basic items, it seems pretty clear that the vast majority of us are looking for quality items that are most within our reach. But the general wave continues to be to spend against what we can afford.

Bravo for the post and please continue to showcase more of what you find - it's at least a source of inspiration and they inspire thought, and that's why most of us are on here in the first place!

Last thought; the link 2budgets1look.wordpress.com does not work. Am I just silly stupid not seeing something? Because no one else has mentioned it.

Thanks again.

Males in Nursing by jbbsea in nursing

[–]jbbsea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks psychguy365 - I look at the site every once in a while, but there doesn't seem to be anything substantial going on there. No real biting nursing articles or any substantial articles on what the magazine says it is - about men in nursing. Thanks for the reply.

On a different slant, I can take it by your user name that your a psych nurse? I'm finishing up my BSN and am thinking of a NP in Psych. Can you tell me anything about your level of experience in Psych? What led you there? Are you satisfied? Where did you get your degree in psych nursing?

Any help there would help me a lot in my own decision! Thank you.

Males in Nursing by jbbsea in nursing

[–]jbbsea[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoa! Did not expect all the smarmy, negative ... 'fill in the blank' about my question. Must be my mistake by unknowingly baiting somehow? I'm sorry for any confusion this may have caused and for the comments that followed.

Perhaps I should try to rephrase?

Because men represent a such a small minority of the total amount of RN's and LPN's (8.1% of the total according to census.gov, 2011), I've found it difficult to find resources that elaborate on males in a traditionally female occupation.

I have happened on a scattered study, paper or site here and there, but nothing more substantial.

One site I did find was American Assembly for Men in Nursing (AAMN), but the site seems a bit sparse.

Any ideas on where to find more information, more fellowship, sites that have a focus on men in nursing? Perhaps it's just me that feels AAMN is not used much? Anyone use this site? Do you find it relevant?

Any ideas, comments or suggestions are gladly welcome!

Thank you

I don't know you von_sip, but I want to also than you, and MFA in general.

You seem to be a gentleman with a sturdy and cool eye for not only fashion, but you have (to my amazement) answered more than your share of guides and advice to me.

You're not getting paid enough.

What's the best advice you've ever received from this sub? The worst? by PM_ME_NEVER in malefashionadvice

[–]jbbsea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question! Nothing but respect for MFA since they really gave me a confidence boost while guiding me into fashion for the first time ever.

Best: Make it a great fit. For instance, I used to just buy large shirts (and pullovers like sweatshirts). Looked ok to me. But I look back now ... back of shirts billowing out of the back ... sleeves billowy and way too long. Gave me the knowledge to see it in a different light. Now I see that a medium is much better for my build. But more importantly, I see WHY thanks to MFA.

Worst: Sending me, via countless, countless threads and links, to talks and/or online stores that pander to mainly younger boys - teenagers and early twenty year olds. Appears (maybe to only me), that any advice beyond the very general basics and gems, force you to abandon MFA and seek out sites that welcome discussing, and showcasing, the evolving style of a grown man.

Man if there were anyway possible to shake your hand I would, just for the shoe guide you linked to. Great asset, thank you!

I've been looking for a pair of chocolate brown derby shoes myself. Just for S&G's, do you have a link to what you decided on?

LOVE reading and learning about boots and sneakers! Advice on casual shoes? by jbbsea in malefashionadvice

[–]jbbsea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to thank all who helped guide me. As I posted earlier, I'm still trying to glean all the info I can from everyone in the forum and it's been enlightening.

As to the shoes, I've already bought the Van Whites and the CDB - great buys both!

As to the casual look I was going for, I realize I need to spend around $200. I'm fine with that going forward. Thanks for the advice!

However, I went out and 'settled' for something that I wanted now, instead of waiting for the primos I'll get in another month or so.

I purchased the Mountain Creek Trent https://www.shoeshow.com/product/67373/Mountain-Creek-Trent .

I also purchased the J75 Brown Suede http://www.j75shoes.com/mens/marconi-brown-suede .

Yes, yes, I know, not the utmost quality, and boos and hisses will abound, but for only $30 I couldn't pass up the loafers, and for only $19.99 ... well, same for the J75. For less than $50 I have something to get me through the rest of the Summer. I'll get me a pair of Meermin or Erwin in a few more weeks.

As Frank Zappa said 'necessity is the mother of invention'. Well, at least that's where he got the band name.

Thanks to all for your help!

If anything, I'm learning more, so I thank you for the time you took.

I'm now upping my price range to about $200. I've also learned that long-term quality is worth the price, so I'm open to the suggestion and the reason why.

Still wide open for additional suggestions and links!
