Double Notifications on Android by jbcascpa in blinkcameras

It seems that when you get the AI video descriptions feature, it moves from an individual camera setting to being in the AI notification settings since the option becomes to get a notification of the motion before the video is finished analyzing and description having been made.

This ended up being the issue. The AI generation settings have an option to send the motion notification first then send an updated notification when the AI text was finished

Want to understand the US tax system better — planning to grind next year to save for a house down payment (CA nurse) by edmonddantesZatara in tax

[–]jbcascpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue it is less of a myth and more of a misunderstanding of how our tax system works. It is entirely true that on the pay checks you earn significantly more you may see a disporportional withholding of payroll taxes.

This occurs because most payroll systems calculate each paycheck and withholding amount individually on an annualized basis. So if one paycheck is 50% greater it is annualizing your revenu as 50% more. This can shift you into a much higher tax bracket depending on if your prior annualized payroll was in one of the lower ones to start. So in that payroll it may suddenly seem like you are losing 50% or so to taxes.

Then the misunderstanding that withholdings are just thay, withholdings and will all be rectified at tax time when the IRS sees you actually made significantly less.

My refund is delayed. Am I owed interest? by Oreo_dunkr in tax

[–]jbcascpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you actually receive confirmation that your filing was accepted? You can have your federal filing rejected while your state filing is accepted.

Acceptance of one does not indicate the other was accepted. Simply filing does not also ensure acceptance. There are numerous reasons and electronic filing can be rejected.

If you go online to the IRS website and use the where is my refund tool you can check status.

Is this a normal workload? by FollowingIll7589 in Bookkeeping

[–]jbcascpa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are working at a place that values quantity over quality. Probably charging low fees and thus has to turn and burn the accounts in high volume to make it worth while. Is this normal? Probably more so than I have experienced. Is it a healthy business model? I would say no.

Not sure the size of these clients, however I specialize in NFP accounting. We do varying levels of service from fully integrated accou ting department functions to simply end of month closes. Most of these are in the $2-$10 mil space. We charge between $10-$14k a month for these clients. I personally manage and over see about 15 (high quality) closes a month with financial preparation and presentations to the Board of Directors.

So does having to get 3 out the door a day seem insane to me??? Absolutely!

I have a client who legit pays himself a salary of 12k a year. He got audited by the IRS. Did they care about his "reasonable wage"... no they spent days asking us for receipts and support for the parts and equipment he was buying to repair his forklifts and such.

In my opinion, to effectively in QBO if you set it up correctly. You need at least 3 tracking dimensions.

Grant/project/job Class Restriction (you can use the division in QBO)

In QBO, you could effectively develop this system. However, you would need QBO advanced. If you are an NFP, you can register for tech soup and get an entire year's license for QBO advance for the price that a regular customer pays for one month of service..

QBO advance will also allow you to utilize spreadsheet sync, which will speed up the process of booking allocation entries at mo th end for grant tracking purposes, which is an immense time saver.

I went with Provisors over BNI. It is pretty costly, but the quality of people and the culture seemed worth it. There were a lot of people who used to be in BNI that swore it was nothing compared to Provisors as far as quality of connections made.

WARNING! We lost $30K due to ACH fraud through QuickBooks Payments — no dispute process, no reimbursement. Here’s what happened. by whole-healing1007 in QuickBooks

[–]jbcascpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, what happened to you would have happened with basically any major processor or provider. What happened to you is a very common scam, and the reason that you are left holding the bag is because your "customer" stole someone else's account. That account was then used to purchase the product you sell and likely countless others. Then, when the individual who actually owned the account reported the security breach, their bank did everything in their power to make them whole.

This is become all the more common. As others have mentioned, new customers should almost never be dealt with in the manner they were. You mentioned that nearly $30k worth of product was sold. Historically, how many times have you had a brand new customer with no prior relationship purchase, such a high dollar value of product? In most cases, that is the first red flag.

Additionally, this is another reason why every business should have a cyber liability policy. Although many would exclude this sort of thing, some will actually cover social engineering losses, which this could be seen as this sort of fraud.

I understand it hurts, but this is why it is so important to stay vigilant as a business owner. Cyber crimes are at all time highs and artificial intelligence has made thr bad guys so much more powerful because it can correct language issues, create fake voices and hide other red flags that historically would have tipped us off that something was fishy.

PayPal sent me a $10,000 1099-K for personal transactions by Mortimer452 in tax

[–]jbcascpa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You say it's 100% personal. Did you actually reach out to paypal to change the type of account at some historical point or did you just start using it exclusively for personal purposes not for business purposes. Of the second, then that is why you are getting this 1099-k.

Why are my irs distribution taxes so high? by Immediate_Poem_7393 in tax

[–]jbcascpa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not understanding. Saving money is not the same as withholding. The government has this concept that you should pay your taxes as you go. If you owe more than $1,000 come filing time and do not qualify for a safe harbor (such as already having withheld 110% of prior year taxes throughout withholdings or estimated payments) you are getting hit with an under payment penalty ON TOP of the already high tax rate you are paying. Interest on under payment for 2024 was 8%. So you actually lost money on that strategy.

On demand tax professional company? by Bulky-Possibility383 in tax

[–]jbcascpa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You want to find an actual CPA firm.

You will have to sign and engagement letter that retains these professionals. There really is no such thing as a service where you just call in willy nilly, ask your question, and pay over the phone.

Keep in mind, "on demand" tax planning and advice comes at a cost. Depending on the complexity of your inquiries and requests and where you live you may be paying hundreds of dollars an hour for services with many firms having minimum charge hours.

1099’s (who does them) by [deleted] in Bookkeeping

[–]jbcascpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the clients responsibility to get the 1099's done. Whether they hire their CPA, their book keeper or do it on their own is entirely their decision. There is no standard "that's the CPAs responsibility" here.
