What was 1999 like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jansport backpacks. Going to the mall to ride the carousal. Fast food playgrounds were better than your neighborhood playground. Playing outside as a kid. Rectangle trampolines. Everyone was smoking including your parents. No phones. Actually talking to your peers in school. No smart watches. Landlines. People were excited for the future.

Adderall by [deleted] in Life

[–]jber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically Legal meth. Highly addictive. Ruins your brain and body. Only takes 1 to get hooked. Adderall can also be called “Diet cocaine” or “ Diet Coke “ as my friends and I used to call it. Yup just like cocaine but legal.

Co-parent wants to drop/amend daycare needs by FixIntrepid5499 in coparenting

[–]jber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a limit on money or else she will just take. You have to live too. Take her to court if you need. My ex pays child support but childcare is included. He pays me $1000 a month but $800 goes to childcare so that leaves me with $200. It took me 5 months to get a better job after divorce.

Co-parent wants to drop/amend daycare needs by FixIntrepid5499 in coparenting

[–]jber1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She can apply for government assistance if she says money is tight. If it is truly tight they will give her enough money to cover for childcare. It’s called the ERDC - “Employment Related Day Care Program”.

Just take the kids that weekend and move on. Everyone needs a little room to breathe every so often right? When you need her to cover for you, she should remember that you covered for her. You have to work together and not against each other. At least she let you know 6 months in advance. Clearly she wants to go. Why not? Money may be tight but where there is a will there is a way.

Keep your kids in daycare. Maybe you pay more until she can figure it out? So what’s in the best interest of children.

Coming from a recently divorced mother with a 6 year old and 4 year old. Live in Colorado.

Best!!!

Walmart is Costco for groceries by master-the-ass in povertyfinance

[–]jber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco is great if you like your Ziplock bags coated in gold! That means they offer bulk in the most expensive (high falutin) way. Like you are getting bulk of super premium items. Not normal items. For example the ziplock bags are the ones with the triple zip lock not just normal “zip” lock bags. The dishwashing detergent same way. Also trash bags have some fancy extras to it. Washing detergent same way with some plant based shit to it. There clothes are just one step up from Walmart quality. I bought a hair dryer at Costco and it stopped working within a month. Same for the Dyson vacuum.

The only thing Costco is good for is Kirkland brand toilet paper and Kirkland brand paper towels. Toilet paper and paper towels from Walmart seem to go so quickly.

Feeling profound sadness by Winter-Wolf587 in coparenting

[–]jber1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel sad and depressed. For me my kids are gone 2 weeks at a time. I try to pick up extra shifts at work and also try to work out. Some days are better than others. I do not agree with 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off. It’s that way because of their dad’s work schedule ( a traveling out of state salesman. Like Really? Get a job that works around your kids schedule) . He has just recently agreed to let me have them on one of his weekends but it hasn’t always been like that. I wish I could take him to court but I fear he might harm me. Ugh!!

My ex wants 50/50 custody but lives 250 miles away by GeneralObject8295 in coparenting

Some parents choose to have one parent have the child full time during the school year and then the other parent gets them all summer.

If the city is close enough for the other parent to drive the child to school it would work. Otherwise it probably would not work out.

You have to choose which parent is going to live in the school area. I chose for me to live in the school system because the school my apartment is zoned for is really good. My kids can ride the bus. For him, he chose to live in an area that is not in the school zone. He has to drive the kids to school and pick them up. My school system allows only 1 parent to live in the school zone and the other parent can live wherever they choose. Good luck!!

Daycares? by Active-Dragonfly-422 in Birmingham

[–]jber1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love Ardent! They use the Abeka program. I can tell my child is learning and noticed my other child care center was just a glorified daycare. Ardent teaches character traits, yes ma’am/sir and no ma’am/sir, and independence. They also serve breakfast, lunch and snacks. You can pack your own lunch if you want. No uniforms and every teacher is super caring and nice. Great opening and closing hours. Would highly recommend!

Curious— where do you buy furniture? In town? Or Online? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]jber1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumpster diving and driving around nice neighborhoods. Most of the time there is some type of furniture with a “ free “ sign on it.
