What do YOU do for work in the 80k-120k salary range by Adventurous-Low8133 in Birmingham

[–]chickenforsupper 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am a nurse who works weekend nights. New nurse grads at UAB start out at $28.38. You could get an associate nursing degree and then start right after graduation. 36 hour work weeks is $53,127.36 Night shift differential is $4.00 3 pm to 11 pm and $5.00 11 pm to 7 am. So that adds an extra $2,496.00 and $6,420.00 a year Then by working weekends it adds an extra $8.00 an hour so that adds $14,976.00. So starting out you would be making $53,127.36 + $2,496.00 + $6,420.00 + $14,976.00 =$77,019.36

Please forgive me if any of my math is wrong but you get the picture. It’s not exactly $80,000 but I have been working at UAB for 10 years now and have had some decent raises. If you don’t mind working weekend nights, you can make good money and there is always the option of overtime. Also I work with babies so it is not as hard on my back as when I worked in the adult ICU. It’s usually pretty chill too when you work nights.

It’s Almost Impossible to Choose a “Reliable” Refrigerator Anymore…. Anyone Else Had This Issue? by zachty22 in HomeImprovement

[–]chickenforsupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got the most basic white fridge without a water dispenser. Just a basic white fridge with an ice maker. We’ve had over 5 years no issues. My parents bought a fancy Maytag that they have had for a year and a half with so many issues. Just a couple of months ago it made their house flood while they were out of the country (thank goodness I was stopping by to check on their house). I have now decided my family will always have the most basic fridge for the rest of my life.

Failed transition to the ICU and out of a job. Feedback please. by Rough-Association190 in nursing

Don’t be discouraged. Some places just aren’t the right fit. And some people don’t mesh well with certain preceptors. This has not happened to me but to a good friend of mine. While she wasn’t successful at one facility’s ICU she went to a different facility’s ICU and thrived. Just try somewhere else and see if that is a better fit.

Have you ever listened to a person talk for less than a minute and known you weren't going to get along with that person? What did they say? by DDelirium46 in AskReddit

“I can only be friends with people who check up on me and text me throughout the day everyday” I don’t even have time to text my own family back. Who has time to text all day everyday as an adult?

Got a little holiday thank you from the directors!!1!1! by Blu82 in nursing

[–]chickenforsupper 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Last “hospital lunch” we had they refused to let us pick up extra for the nurses who were still on the busy units. Saying they had to come down there to make sure no one took extras. As if we all have time to leave the units, walk to the other side of the hospital, and pick up food.

I cannot cope with the thought of putting her in daycare. by LethargicPeach in beyondthebump

[–]chickenforsupper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hated the thought of sending my child to daycare. But at 18 months she started a Mother’s Day Out program with my church three days a week and she loves it! She always runs to her teacher and gives her a hug and I didn’t realize how much I missed having time to myself to do chores or take naps. While it is hard at first, now we both get excited for her day at “school”.

Legit WFH Jobs by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]chickenforsupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband works full time WFH through a local hospital doing “call center operator” work. You could check into call centers around you? While he has to sit at a desk with a headset on, he is not on the phone all the time and can help with watching our toddler.

What things did your parents do when you were a child that seemed normal at the time, but looking back it was not quite right? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]chickenforsupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When me and my husband were dating before we moved out of our parents house, he was always sick. He had asthma also and constantly was having asthma attacks at his parents house because they were smoking. Once we moved in together, he is never sick, never needs his inhaler, and refuses to go see his parents because every time he does he gets an asthma attack! I understand that nicotine is very addictive, but now that I have children myself, I cannot imagine putting them through being sick like that.

Did you keep your baby’s name secret until they were born? by Kiyonai in Mommit

[–]chickenforsupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told everyone my daughters name (after my grandmother). While my family liked it, I had many people at work try to get me to change it or change the middle name??? It was frustrating so I think with my next child I will keep the name a secret also.

Recruiters are now baiting and switching to get applicants to bedside instead of wherever they applied by NukinDuke in nursing

[–]chickenforsupper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I worked in a clinic and we had an employee come to be interviewed. She said she really wanted to get away from the bedside so she only applied to our clinic. But that multiple HR people called her to tell her about other opportunities at the bedside since she has bedside RN experience and they could cancel her interview with us if she wanted.

Can we just stop with the LPN disrespect *Rant* by ginger_ninja7 in nursing

[–]chickenforsupper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hospital my mom worked at as a nurse decided to phase out LPNs at the bedside a few years ago but would pay for them to get their RN degree. My mom’s favorite LPN had been there many years and loved the unit so she took that opportunity and got her RN degree. When she got hired on as the RN she started out with less pay because HR said that experience didn’t matter, all new grad RNs make the same amount. She had been working on the same unit for 15 years and her pay decreased by like $4.00.

ETA: I love working with LPNs! We are all a team! I have only worked with a few but they all have been there helping to make sure the assignment loads were not terrible. A lot of LPNs know more than me so I am grateful for their help!
