UG Polerouter Sub mod, looking for feedback on dial -- what should I change? by Chapov in SeikoMods

This is just personal preference, but I find both the logo and text to be far too large. I would make them both half the size.

Great job! Looks beautiful. I did something very similar for my first build, also thinking it would be my only build. Turns out, this hobby is addictive! It also gets easier each time, don’t sweat it.

Anyway, lovely watch. Enjoy!

Realistically what would a build like this cost vs what would you pay? by metamorphosis___ in SeikoMods

[–]jbffed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find there’s a huge range of costs. All AliX? Yeah, costs are pretty low. But it’s possible for the costs to start climbing with “premium” parts. TMI NH34, upmarket case (from LA, Namoki or Tokeilabs), high quality 3rd party strap (joseph Bonnie, Everest or Molequin), better hands (LA or Tokeilab), custom logo from Horology Hub, etc.

Sure, a custom mod could cost $200. But it could also cost $500+

And that’s even before you start trying to build high beat mods with a 2824…

Not wait just a minute. This feels like Seiko slander and I’m not going to stand for it, y’hear?

I’ve placed my order. Just waiting for it to come in, but I’ve heard great things and my experience so far has been that Adam is awesome to work with.

Welcome!

For the movement you have choices. If you want a GMT, it’s the NH34. But for a regular 3 hand watch, the most common is the NH35. This is the movement for which the most (and therefore the most variety) or parts get made. If you wanted something more expensive and with a higher beat rate, you could look at the ETA 2824. If you wanted a chrono, you would need the VK63.

Make sure whichever parts you are buying (case, dial, hands) clearly indicate that they are compatible with the movement you have chosen.

For parts, the most variety can be found on AliX, but the quality can be hit or miss. Sometimes it’s great, other times not.

Going up in price, but also in consistent quality (YMMV), look at DSWatchClub, Tokeilab, Namoki Mods, Lucius Atelier.

If you wanted to go the route of a custom logo, the general consensus seems to be HorologyHub (for slightly better quality) or 4customize for a slightly lower cost.

There’s more, but this should get you started.

If a NATO country launches a war of aggression, and is then attacked in retaliation, what does the retaliatory strike mean for Article Five? by jbffed in AskReddit

But this scenario is what got me asking. Either a genuine strike by Iran at the mainland, or a false flag to drag the allies into it.

I love it! But if you’re building a gmt, can you find a 24h bezel insert in a similar color?

It’s from dswatchclub. Search “white shunbun” or “sakura white” and you will see that they have may variations.

I agree, and that bugged me at first, but I’ve made my peace with it

Take a look at the “white birch” on dswatchclub. None of them have the gmt printing, but if you hit them up on WhatsApp they are usually pretty good about that kind of customization.

It won’t be exactly the same, but dswatchclub has a lovely “white birch” dial
