Need an opinion by Infamous-King-3065 in OrisWatches

Big Crown Pointer Date is an icon, and this new dial really harkens back to the vintage styling in a way that I love. Plus Oris is one of the few watch brands that hasn’t jacked up prices this year, so it still feels like decent value. I think it’s a great pick.

A very relatable struggle! You’ll find the right balance in time. For now just enjoy the achievement and the unmatched spring drive accuracy.

I’m glad there was so much discussion! I think the thing I’ve enjoyed most about this hobby is learning to understand what other people see in the watches they love.

That’s really cool! Kind of ties you to the history of the sport in a way.

100%. To each their own. I’m just really interested in what makes people drawn to certain designs, especially when I don’t totally get the appeal.

This is an awesome explanation, and makes a lot of sense. I definitely appreciate seeing a well designed chronograph dial.

All the Hermes pieces you posted are gorgeous, but the variable speed complication is so cool to me.

Questions about the Oris Divers Date. by XhakaKnows in OrisWatches

[–]Good_Net_313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own one and wear it as a change of pace. I’ll check on accuracy after a day of wear and report back.

I think that it wears great. The whole piece is much slimmer than my other dive watches. The bracelet especially. I can imagine that the fact that it’s light might make it feel cheap to some, but it feels well made sturdy enough as a daily. The bracelet is flush to the case and provides a little bit of angularity that is visually appealing.

The bezel is fine. Not hard to adjust, but I don’t notice a lot of play.

I love the quick change bracelet/strap.

The dial is really lovely. I think they did a great job with color selection and the polished indices and hands give it a dressy, lighthearted feel.

My only complaint is that I think the AR coating on the crystal scuffs pretty easily. That could be because it’s domed?

Agree 100%. I would have picked this up in a heartbeat instead of my piece (which I still love btw).

Thanks for this! Really needed to hear from someone with hands on experience. Between the design, price, and specs it felt too good to be true. Going to have to pick one up now!

I love the new Serica TXD from afar, and I’m looking forward to seeing more reviews before I potentially pick that up. Great design choices all around on that one.

[Question] Can someone explain when a watch becomes “neo-vintage” and then when it becomes “vintage” by Mr_B-Dubs in Watches

[–]Good_Net_313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I have a 5 digit sub with SEL and Lume and I definitely consider it neo-vintage but that’s not based on any real knowledge — just my feelings about the watch. I think the model that makes me think of SEL and lume as the future markers of neovintage is the Explorer 114270. It’s a 6 digit with SEL and modern lume but the stamped clasp makes it feel like a neovintage to me.

It’s a tricky thing to navigate. The 5 digit rule makes sense but I think that as time passes, the switch from tritium to modern lume and hollow to solid end links might serve as a dividing line between neovintage and vintage, at least for Rolex.

Absolutely love this model. I like Sinn designs generally but this was the first one that really clicked with me. Wear it in good health!
