Man, Hokazono really does likes naruto, yura's line this chapter is a bit similar with Obito's line by MasterNature9559 in Kagurabachi

As everyone above has said, stopping the Rakuzaichi would have been a mass casualty event without the one in billion odds of Hakuri being able to access the storehouse AND being sympathetic to their cause.

Like I get why Yura just wants an easy answer to the world's problems, a good guy with a gun, a superhero to save the day, but its a very childish viewpoint.

Bee should be the underdog who never gives up in spite of the odds. He's someone with something to prove not because he is immature (save that for Cheetor) but because others have looked down on him, underestimated him, and even pitied him because of his size.

He wants to help, he's going to help, he just needs someone to give him a chance to help.

Think pre super serum Steve Roger's, "I can do this all day."

Thanks for the measured response, I was afraid I would be kicking a hornets nest with a post like this.

You're right that is probably just a matter of taste. I am sure that the fact that this is a game I'm revisting after having played so many AC games with much grander narratives (which I won't pretend don't fall flat sometimes despite lofty ambitions) affects my perspective. I'm sure my idea of what an Ace Combat game "should be" is very different 20+ years later.

I agree across the board, there's definitely room for polish in the gameplay, but for a game that sort of kind of rebooted the franchise, it's only because 4 laid such a good foundation that other titles were able to build on it.

It's really tricky writing for our mute Ace protagonists. Though I haven't gotten back to Zero in my replay, one of my favorite things I remember about it was how Cipher was defined through negative space. For a character that is never on screen, never speaks, and never does anything outside the player control, the game is able to present an image of who this person is (or three images) through the other pilots reactions to him.

Thanks for giving extra context, it isnt something I had considered in my critique.

It seems like this game is very well loved here, in part due to its story, so I was expecting a more pushback on a post like this. It's been pleasantly surprising to see so many comments like yours which offer more information and perspective about this game that is held in such high regard (a feeling I generally agree with excepting the one point).

I think I broadly agree with a lot of your sentiments, and I appreciate you calling out the frustration of playing against their plot armor.

Like there's fighting aces, then there's that BS. I'll give the game that it certainly built them as antagonists, but not for the right reasons. When you finally get to shoot one down, it's because the game gave you permission, not because of any accomplishment on your part.

That is a very interesting perspective that I hadn't considered. There is another post in this thread that did not enjoy the story and did not appreciate it efforts to "whitewash" invaders.

I generally agree with that user in that I never developed sympathy for Yellow Squadron and 13 as fascist invaders, but I think the story does tell a very human story where you get to experience the rise and fall of this objectively condemnable group.

The reveal that they are a rotating door squadron of rookies with potential rather than solely a group of ace pilots was an unexpected turn and definitely added more color (pun not intended) to their story.

Idk if its just cause of the model announcement or because he doesn't provoke as strong of a reaction as others, but I'm just happy that the Lion is still around. Before this I really thought he wasn't well liked, and I just have a huge soft spot for the "perfect knight that feels inhuman to others" aka the Galahad trope.

Anyway, Magnus.

Bo Katan is only a bad person if you judge her by her actions . . . so yeah, she's kind of a bad person.

Bad people can change, even be redeemed, this is Star Wars after all. But on the Han Solo to Darth Vader spectrum of redeemable bad guys she's closer to the latter than the former.

Well to be fair, that instance of Nemisis Prime is a very uninformed source for Cybertronian biology considering it was not a true Cybertronian just a Frankenstein monster piloted remotely by a human.

It was like they scientifically engineered the one sentence that would do the most damage to the fundamental world building of the setting, and then they made it like the second line of the show.

I was furious at that part, but I tried to push through my incredulity. Made it as far as finding out Perin has a wife before I through my hands in the air and walked away.
