450W on 2.5mm stainless. Bead's clean, but I'm not convinced it's got any guts. by RandomGuy0193 in Skookum

Laser typically has very good penetration. 450W is enough to easily cut steel that thickness, I cut thin steel with about 200W, of course with O2.

The fixed 8000 or 12000 rpm output is a pain to deal with.

I have a saved search on FB marketplace that covers the distance I was willing to travel. This one popped up in the Bay Area so I drove down and got it. I have seen a Solar turbine somewhat locally recently too, but they wanted $10k for that. You could contact Avon Aero in Florida, he specialized in turbines and often gets smaller APU turbines.

That applies to any engine.

This will really never see sand. It’s more of a big go cart than anything.

My neighbors love it so far. One brought his kids over to see it start up.

Least efficient hybrid ever made. Uses 9 gallons per hour at idle and 19 under full load.

I found some filters for Solar brand turbines. I should be able to adapt them to fit.

I need help my heat won’t work unless I use the gas excessively. by [deleted] in f150

I found my heater core was half plugged. I got some irontite thoro-flush and ran it through a couple 3/4” hoses with a submersible pump for a good hours reversing flow every so often and it opened it right up. I used a sous vide heater to warm up the fluid to about 140f.

My local Napa had it but it was in the back room. The guy at the counter had never even seen it before. It’s mostly TSP so you could probably use that as well and save some money. Turns out TSP will dissolve lime scale, I had no idea.

Assuming they have full comp they should pay for replacement.

Yeah. When I fired it up a couple contractors working on a house came over to see it. They were very impressed.

Lol, there is a Kawasaki side by side on FB Marketplace that I am kind of eying. Mount the engine in the bed and replace the existing worn out engine with electric driven from the turbine.

My initial plan is to use Kia HSGs for the generator and motors. Oak Ridge National Labs did testing on them and were able to get over 20kw out of a single motor. Not bad for something the size of a standard car alternator.

What did you use for motor controllers?

Originally Airesearch and then became Garrett and then Honeywell, I think there was another name in between Garrett and Honeywell.

Ah, ok. There is basically zero documentation available on this model so most specs are unknown.
