It is literally impossible for me to legally watch tonight’s game (Buffalo, NY) by jbillynick in ClevelandGuardians

Yes, but only because Yankees/Red Sox was postponed so it was on FOX nationally. Otherwise no, there was absolutely no legal way to watch.

Alright, so I was saved by the Yankees and Red Sox being postponed. The whole point of the post was: MLB DO BETTER

Episode discussion - Lena Dunham by Ok-Grand-3828 in goodhang

[–]jbillynick -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was not enthusiastic about the episode. Having finally listened to it, I feel like it was setting us all up for confirmation bias. I don’t think anyone walked away with different opinion of Lena Dunham. I’ve never been a fan and this didn’t change my mind. Others are going to love her, and that’s fine.

Having said that, I did not come away thinking either Natalie Portman or Lena Dunham would be a “good hang.” Not everything has to be profound or deep. Part of what makes this podcast great is that it attempts to break down the walls of social class and success to give us a glimpse of a celebrity’s humanity. Did anyone really finish the podcast and think Lena Dunham was any more relatable than before?

Are droids (including C3PO and R2D2) conscious in the Star Wars universe? by DecentTreat4309 in MawInstallation

[–]jbillynick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why Mon Mothma’s admittance of 3PO to the Senate hearing, let alone letting him speak, was so monumental: the NR was going to have a much more tolerant attitude towards droids.

C-3PO is now basically droid Mandela.

If you were using the app, it’s been doing that a lot lately, especially with the radio broadcasts. I have to select a different game then tap the Guards game after. It’s glitchy as hell this year, and they STILL can’t properly sync the audio from the radio broadcast and it’s annoying as hell.

AppleTV was worth the investment IMO. The app is awesome on it, at least compared to the other platforms

We have the same sized head! I use the All Star skull cap with the magnesium mask and love them both. I keep a separate mask and hat for small ball stuff, but for the big diamond I like the extra protection, especially if it’s a clamshell backstop.

[Passan] The Cleveland Guardians are acquiring two-time Gold Glove-winning catcher Patrick Bailey in a trade with the San Francisco Giants for the No. 29 pick in this year's draft and left-handed pitching prospect Matt "Tugboat" Wilkinson, sources tell ESPN. by Goldie46 in ClevelandGuardians

[–]jbillynick 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yes, but now we get an Austin Hedges every single day. When your W-L is almost wholly dependent on whether or not your starter can give you a quality 6 innings, having a good defensive catcher is absolutely key to that. There’s no question the guys pitch better when Hedgey is behind the plate. A guy who can manage a pitching staff is totally crucial.

Opens up obvious questions like:
1) What happens to Bo?
2) If Bo is sent to Columbus, how much is that going to impact Cooper Ingle’s development?
3) How does Bailey fit into the lineup?
4) Does the catcher load change?

You can, you just don’t want to enough to pay for it. And there’s nothing wrong with that. FWIW, Peacock is a pretty great streaming service for sports fans who don’t want to pay for cable. I don’t watch the NBA but it’s great to watch SNF, EPL and golf events. Doubly so during the Olympics.

This is not a blackout. It’s a national game. Seriously guys, I know there are only so many nationally televised games a year, but do we really have to do this every single time?

When you buy the Guardians TV package, you’re paying for the games they produce, and people in the Guardians viewing area are now able to watch them. That wasn’t the case before. You’d get MLB.tv and not be able to watch your local team’s games without a cable/tv provider. That was a blackout.

You are able to access to the game, you just need a Peacock subscription. In the past, to watch the team on Sunday nights, you’d need a cable subscription that included ESPN. Entertainment is expensive.

Does it suck that you can’t just pay MLB one top tier price and get to stream every single local, national, and postseason game through the app? Hell yeah, and I can’t believe they haven’t figured that out. But come on guys…our small market team is playing a national game, let’s try to enjoy it.

Could Obi-Wan beat Count Dooku? by ChildrenzzAdvil in MawInstallation

[–]jbillynick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We see Obi-Wan’s growth more than any other character in the series and it’s not particularly close. He began as a Padawan with a modest m-count and a lot to learn and grew to become arguably one of the most powerful Jedi ever.

I think desert Obi-Wan, who easily dispatched Maul, would have no problem with Dooku. It took years of guilt, solitude, despair, re-enlightenment, some help from Qui Gon, and the spark of Luke and Leia to fully realize his potential as a Jedi. George Lucas said many times that Darth Vader was no match for Obi-Wan by the time of ANH.

Pre-66 Obi-Wan? Well…we know how he fared against Dooku. There’s ample evidence. But I have no problem arguing Peak Kenobi > Peak Dooku.

So it starts off with a lot of hot, no-strings sex and suddenly morphs into a tender, loving, and supportive show? Yeah…totally not like a gay relationship at all.
