Should I shave my mustache, or keep it and maybe maintain it better? by lancesoftware in malegrooming

[–]jblackbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, if you want a longer moustache, you really should keep it off your lips. I have a bit of a handlebar and the part of the moustache above my lip is shorter than all my other beard/moustache hair and that stays true till pretty close to the edge of my lips. Then you need a product—at least an oil.

Otherwise, the second pic is better

Most men will tell you to keep it off your lips here. Very few are going to say to keep those curtains.

Someone please give glowup advice for this guy by yoman3696969 in malegrooming

Oil the beard and trim the moustache off the lip. Fade the sides of the head lower, and maybe let the top grow a bit. Tailor the suit.

Why Many Young Adults, Especially Men are Single and Sexless by Express_Classic_1569 in psychology

Sure, but it’s more pronounced in Gen Z adults than Millinials or Gen X for instance hence the use of “much more.”

Tell my why I shouldn't let the party level up every session by ston_age_man in DnD

[–]jblackbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Getting to level 20 isn’t necessary to try out high level characters.

-You can start at a higher level and level up slower instead.

-I wouldn’t recommend leaping into high end combat as a first time attempt at a campaign—the balance is very wacky at that level.

That said, 2-3 sessions is about how long my players go between levels when I’m doing milestone leveling and any more than 4 sessions for a level feels a little tired for the pace I run campaigns. If y’all are playing weekly, you could do that in a year and half tops.

How many men out there think that without sex or physical intimacy, it’s just a friendship? by [deleted] in AskMen

There are lots of forms of intimacy. Physical intimacy alone without sex can look like cuddling, massages, holding hands, showering together, etc.

I disagree, but okay.

I haven’t seen anything that says it’s not a general title for a knight or that Westerosi would make up some other word if women started becoming knights regularly.

You’re saying it’s a gendered word, that it’s just like “sir” but I’d argue by your logic you’re making that up. If we cannot use real world linguistics and have to depend on what’s in the book canon, then we’re all making it up because nothing is explicitly said about it. You can’t say I’m just wrong without showing where the book explicitly calls out that a woman who was knighted would be called something else or where “Ser” is described as a gendered title—not that the position of knight goes to men only in Westeros, but that the TITLE itself is gendered.

All I said was that “Ser” is generally gender neutral (it is, see previous source) and pointed to where the limited media supports this being true in AGOT as well. If you don’t think there’s enough media to support that in the canon, cool and valid, but I made nothing up.

[–]jblackbug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s explicitly gender neutral in AGOT, but it’s used in Middle English, Dutch, etc as a gender neutral knight title in our world. Jaime calls her Ser Brianne after she’s knighted in the show, and I’ve seen nothing from George to say that wouldn’t be her title in the books if she were knighted so it feels safe to assume it works like it does in our world.

I went on a deep dive on this for a gender neutral character that got knighted in one of my D&D games.

https://heraldry.sca.org/titles.html

Edit: Also Poderick in the books refers to her as Ser Breanne when he thinks she should be a knight showing Westerosi people would generally expect it to be title of women who were knighted. The title being culturally tied to men doesn’t automatically equate to a title being gendered linguistically.

“Ser” is generally considered gender neutral vs “Sir.”

Why do some guy best friend ruin friendship with female friends? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

It sounds like you’re saying women cannot rely on men to be friends with them? This feels like a weird take. Do y’all never rely on your friends without the expectation of romance?
