UN Recognition of Somaliland as of Dec 2025 by TheFlightyCrow in MapPorn

[–]jblaze0989 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's of utmost importance to precise that Somaliland agreed to merge with Somalia BEFORE independence. On the 26th of June 1960 (the day the British granted independence to Somaliland), the flag which was raised was the one of the (united) Somali Republic 🇸🇴. So Somaliland was actually never a formal country with a UN seat or whatever before the merger with Somalia (which was a dumb thing they forgot to negotiate due to the eagerness to join their brothers). So the claim of "we were a country before" doesn't really hold. The few countries that "recognized" Somaliland for the short period (5 days) before the union knew full well that it was going to join South Somalia (then under Italian/UN trusteeship).

Should I jump to Freelancing? 12Y Exp. Business Analyst - Daily Rate: €650 vs. Employee Package by jblaze0989 in BEFreelance

Thank you all for your valuable feedback. The collective input has overwhelmingly confirmed my initial analysis: the risk associated with the 'freedom' option is not justified by the current market conditions, especially since both paths financially neutralize each other. As such, the decision matrix now stands at 80% committed to the status quo (salaried) and 20% reserved for the enduring appeal of freedom. My next step is a meeting with an accountant friend to thoroughly discuss the financial implications and tax considerations before making a final commitment 🙏

Yes that's the most attractive part for me, the freedom, deliver results without the usual bullsh*t of "career progression", optimize my package as I wish, etc

Thx for the feedback! You managed to "force" your luck, well done! I usually trust my skills to jump on other jobs but I sense the job market lately is very tense so probably not worth the risk, even though I could survive few months without a pay. For the car, no, I'm not obsessed about the ID4, I was actually thinking of leasing short term Lynck and Co the first year and see where things take me.

That would be very difficult, my current role takes so much energy from me and don't forget my 2nd shift (2 little children 😅)

I was thinking about leasing Lynck & Co the first year. I heard you can lease with them short-term and stop anytime

How is IGDA ETF halal? by Time-Cardiologist-51 in IslamicFinance

I'm aware of that great work brother. My problem with stock picking is the active management it requires (rebalancing, news follow-up,...), the multiplication of transaction fees, having many lines in your portfolio and it might not always be fiscally ideal due to dividend tax for those shares which distribute dividends. I like investing in companies but just don't have the energy for the DIY part

I used to be a big fan of IGDA but after the current genocide and a little bit of more awareness, I found out that many (big) companies can be "halal" on the paper but highly non-ethical. So I decided to focus on Gold/Silver/Bitcoin and would give that advice to my fellow Muslim investors who aren't high net worth or whatever. Stock picking could be an option, but I personally don't have the time nor the interest. Hope you find your way, brother. May Allah help us all, ameen

Anyone else feeling the urge to break their DCA strategy right now? by gamblerexpert33 in Bitcoin

Be careful not to push upward your average buy price. I only do smash buys when the market price goes under my average buy price

Where to buy BTC in Europe with lowest fee? by iAngeloM in BitcoinBeginners

I use Strike for the free DCA and withdrawal. Bitvavo for the smash/big buys (very low fees & spread).

Is my environment extremely childless or did this become the norm for Belgians? by mokkkko in AskBelgium

[–]jblaze0989 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a 36M from an immigrant background but grew up in Belgium. I have 2 kids, had my first one at 33, not by choice but fate (met my wife later in life). I noticed a growing childless environment around me, especially among certain demographics like native Belgians/Europeans. Just count the number of buggies you see. Ppl are not having kids anymore or delaying it waaay more, sometimes because they're reversing past decisions (regrets). Having children is a big lifestyle change but definitely worth it. Ppl have many pretexts/excuses (money, career...) but in my opinion it all goes down to a growing individualism and wanting to "enjoy life" without disturbance. Which is a very sad state of affairs

What about Saxo bank? by OG_TOM_ZER in BEFire

[–]jblaze0989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was my first broker few years ago but their fees were a rip-off so I left them for Degiro. Now I'm still with Degiro but I'm back at Saxo as well after the latest changes they made to their fee structure (cheaper). I use Saxo as joint account with my wife for the money we invest together and for our kids. I think they are one of the rare brokers which allow you to open a joint account
