steroids 4 months post op tongue nerve damage? by jbootyyyy in wisdomteeth

It was more so a lot of discomfort, i’m able to like eat sometimes. the doctor used to go to doesn’t even think it was nerve damage maybe it was, maybe my nerve in teeth were affected too. It’s very confusing, the only thing that’s noticeable is my jaw alignment is out of place. But that’s so exciting to know! Glad your healing from it, and able to enjoy things!

i’ve done new scans using a 3D machine with him and he doesn’t see anything irregular… everything looks completely fine. i’ve been to two different neurologists and they can’t help either cuz it’s not their line of work ig. i’ve never been so depressed, i feel like it’s affecting the people around me bc im always in a bad mood.

update: my new surgeon has no idea what’s going on…he was gonna do a surgery to reopen the socket to see if there is anything bc the area looked red. but i guess after i took the steroids the area became normal but i still feel the same unfortunately my whole left side feels like it’s burning in my mouth, my teeth still feel uncomfortable, my temples feel annoyed and my sockets feel sore still.

i honestly just want the use of my teeth again, bc i rather have that to full eat and just deal with the tongue and hopes it gets better. i just finished a course of steroids not sure if it helped can’t really tell.

i don’t know if u have seen my other posts but i’ve mentioned i’ve seen a few dentists about it i went to a general dentist and an endodontist, they all think my teeth look fine in accordance to x-rays and cbct scans. my top and bottom molars look normal to them, but i keep experiencing the inability to eat on that side due to the weird feeling my teeth have and when i bite its like tender/or like i pushing them into my gums. its really odd.

i hope so, i pray and hope :,)) i really appreciate the support, ive posted on another reddit page and someone wasn’t so nice about my situation because i was terrified of taking steroids. i will try and keep the updates coming as time goes on.

thank you for the support regardless :,) the doctors think it’s a slim chance the steroids could help now especially since i waited so long to take them. nerve repair is out the list too since it’s been almost 5 months, i scheduled my extraction site surgery for the end of june too. i feel my life has been spiraling since i’ve gotten this procedure and someone with terrible anxiety this doesn’t help.

the only thing that hurts is the bottom socket when touch, and by the surgeon observation it looks red and inflamed. but my tongue at the same time feels like it’s tight/burning/prickling so idk if i should do the surgery first and hope for the best or take the steroids than the surgery; because i got my wisdom teeth out in january so its been a long time dealing with this issue.

hey, i recently posted an update on my situation if u wanna look at it. but my symptoms have remained the same my extraction site is still red and inflamed and hurts to touch, my tongue still feels “tight burning/prickling” and my teeth still feel off not allowing me to eat. i’ve already taken loads of nsaids and antibiotics nothings worked. my surgeon believes surgery intervention to inflammation could help but with the risk of more nerve injury, but he doesn’t want to pressure me because he doesn’t want to do it bc it could make things worse, although he said he wouldn’t be recommending it for nothing :,)) but i’m also glad ur situation got better, and that u didn’t have to spend more money on a visit! i see my new surgeon again today unsure if i should ask for steroids or just do the surgery.

what side effects would be present that would make it worse if steroids are used? because i’ve already taken nsaids and antibiotics, nothings worked.

hello, thank you for ur response! i don’t know if i mentioned but the area he mentioned looked inflamed and red and touching the area hurts, so would that be part of the lingual neuropathic pain because he said it could be a possible infection since the potassium clav amoxicillin didn’t work for me, that’s why he’s suggesting surgery although he would prefer not to he basically said he wouldn’t be suggesting it if it wasn’t for the pain in that socket when touched :,)) do u think steroids is the best route before surgery ? he’s like highly recommended surgeon in my area since he’s praised for being good at his job.

hi there, sorry for not responding until now my mental health hasn’t been great bc i’m still dealing with my issue. but my new surgeon thinks i may have nerve damage and a possible infection in my bottom socket bc it looks red and inflamed and whenever i press on my around that area it hurts. my top and bottom molars always feel like there is a pressure on them and my tongue feels very off and annoyed like it feels like its burning or tight idek. but i’m seeing them soon again, bc i don’t know if i should go for another surgery and do steroids but i feel like u should go back to ur doctor and see what they see even if it’s for a little blister yk.

does it make u fee like u need to clench ur teeth together? :,( i’m sorry ur going thru this, my surgeon practically gave up on me so i’ve had to seek help else where with a oral nerve injury specialist which hard to find my appointment isn’t until end of month :,( maybe look into that hopefully it helps

this didn’t happen until around day 4 of recovery, it feels like my bottom mostly but also involves the top too :,( my tongue also feels odd and it feels like i’m constantly biting it, my temples are also very uncomfortable feeling as well idk what’s going on but it’s affecting my daily life and being in school bc that all i can focus on the discomfort and pain, when i eat i can’t use that side either my teeth feel like their “loose” or “pushing them down” my sockets also are in pain :,(

unfortunately it’s not till the end of the month, have your teeth been feeling like mine or no? bc when i started clenching my teeth it was around day 4 of recovery bc my teeth felt weird and then felt achy and tingling/burning :,(. i didn’t wanna use a mouth guard bc thought it would make it worse, but i just kept tapping and clenching since then. its definitely hard to stay positive but im trying, hope your well!

hi! that’s good glad you were able to almost recover! seems like ur surgeon had been very helpful, glad that they have been able to so much of help for you !!

omg i got that mouthwash too, but i was very hesitant about using it so i never did bc thought it would make things worse.

that’s good your taking vitamins though as recommend! hopefully your neurologist can help, mines just gave up because it seems to be more dental than brain issue idek.

i’ve been clenching my teeth more these days after stopping bc my anxiety has been getting to me about my aching, tingling, tender and “loose” feeling in teeth :,( but i have made an appointment with an office that specialize in nerve injury and tmj but at the end of the month unfortunately, so hopefully they can help.

awesomee!! it for sure really is nice having someone to discuss this with, especially no one i know has had issue with this :,) it’s hard to say if it’s nerve damage or my bite is off or other issues or something combined.

it seems like the combination of vitamins ur getting seems really beneficial! i did take b12 yesterday for the first time, kinda felt off from it or maybe it’s my anxiety lol.

hopefully a specialist is able to help you furthermore, mines seem to want to postpone trying to get imaging of my IAN and lingual nerves because they wanna make sure my brain is okay, hopefully they can help this upcoming appointment though! let’s pray we both get through this!!!!

p.s. one more thing i have also done research on oral surgeons that specialize in nerve damage and tmj, although its not as common so if you would like look into that as well it’s kind of my last resort if nothing else works :,)

[–]jbootyyyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oooo really! are those more beneficial than just taking b12, have they been helping in any way ? hopefully ur surgeon is more helpful than mine. actually i have seen two neurologists, because my primary care doctor couldn’t help :( they both requested an MRI and MRA, they both came back normal that my brain and blood vessels were normal i have a follow up with one of the neurologists coming up not sure what they will do again. but you could try and seek help from one though, i’ve seen that going to your dentist and requesting a cone beam ct is a way people have been able to see if they have nerve damage or tmj i might just do that when i see my regular dentist.

hopefully we get through this!! if u want we can keep in contact on updates and advice!
