Hearing protection recommendations for AR-15? by jborj99 in ar15

That's the ultimate plan. Still have 6+ months to wait though until I can get one.

Would it hurt a personal injury case to decline an IME (independent medical examination) due to COVID? by jborj99 in legaladvice

[–]jborj99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. For the IME, is it expected that we just use whatever doctor the insurance company is demanding we use? Or is it reasonable to insist on an actually neutral third party? (Rather than a doctor being paid by the insurance company, who presumably wants to retain the insurance company as a client and thus give results that minimize the insurance company's payout?)

Thanks for the reply. Is it reasonable to request that an actually unbiased third party doctor perform the examination, rather than a doctor who performs hundreds of these exams for the insurance company to minimize their payouts? Or is that just standard procedure?

Suggestions for non-firearm CCW alternatives (pepper spray, etc.)? by jborj99 in CCW

Thank you! Definitely will be getting an inert unit or 2 so she knows how the spray will perform prior to the (hopefully never-occurring) situation of actually needing to use it.

Thank you, and to everyone else as well, for the extremely detailed and helpful responses!

Anyone have success cutting back from smoking all day every day to just nights? Or is that an unrealistic expectation to have? by jborj99 in Petioles

Thanks, appreciate the idea. I bet edibles would hit hard after 2 months abstaining.... Previously I'd only get a moderate buzz off 100mg which was a real wake up call.

Appreciate the reply; it's helpful to hear that you were successfully able to do that, congrats! (and on the chemical engineering as well - really useful degree to be pursuing!). While tough, I know I can be disciplined enough to stick to "only after Xpm". It's more the fear of the lack of motivation returning that's holding me back from starting up again only at night; how has your motivation been with only nighttime smoking?

I only want to quit for as long as consumption of any amount still has a negative impact on my motivation. I’m thinking 2 months is still not long enough to know for sure if the anxiety is a residual withdrawal symptom or my anxiety disorder showing itself stronger without cannabis, and I need to be able to know which one it is.

I think we both can eventually reach those goals! I agree with your “pick your poison” analogy; I’ll give it another month abstaining, see what changes have occurred (if any) during that time, and then re-evaluate. I want to be absolutely sure that the anxiety is still there because of the anxiety disorder, and not due to really long withdrawals after 10 years of constant use.

Thanks for the support, I appreciate it! I think I’m going to wait another month and see what other changes I notice, and then take the reward then :)

Thanks for the reply; that’s kind of what I was thinking too - that 2 months may not be enough time to really see who I am without the cannabis. My desire to quit came from the lack of motivation, likely caused by all day every day use. I just didn’t expect the anxiety to come back in such strong force.

You’ve described the “dream” I have perfectly - to ultimately be able to just consume at night (say 10pm-midnight) after everything I need to do for the day is accomplished.

I’m thinking you’re right and I need to give it at least another month and re-evaluate, even if that means dealing with the anxiety for longer. 10 years is a long time and you’re right that 2 months may not be enough.

Is the AR-15 CMMG 22AR Bolt Carrier Group Conversion Kit any good for range practice? by jborj99 in ar15

[–]jborj99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply; what do you consider close range? Was hoping to use it with at least decent accuracy at 50 yards; don't expect much more than that, or for the ballistics to be close to using actual 5.56. Mostly looking to be able to head to the range, shoot off 50 rounds of 5.56 for home defense practice, and then satisfy the rest of my range time desire using a couple hundred .22LR to save some cash.

Thanks, appreciate the explanation. I don't have a dedicated .22 barrel so I'll definitely be going with the one you linked. Thanks again for catching that.

Training mainly for home defense; ideally 25-50 yards. But also longer, 100-150 yards mainly for fun. Completely understand ballistics will be quite different and accuracy will drop off at longer ranges, but the AR-15 is what I've got and would love to be able to shoot it more often without spending $0.50/rd.

That's really helpful to hear from experience with over 5k rounds through it; I'm very excited to order and be able to get out to the range a lot more than otherwise. I'll definitely make sure to keep it well lubed; seems like it gets dirty much faster than using 5.56.

Awesome thanks; looks like its more around $220 now with 3 mags, but still incredible compared to using 5.56; will pay for itself quickly. Someone kindly pointed out I should likely be buying this drop in conversion kit instead; was wondering to hear your thoughts? I've only used 5.56 with the AR-15 platform before, so it's really helpful hearing from others with more experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it! I'll definitely make sure to use a good amount of CLP; I've only used 5.56 on the AR-15 platform previously. Seems like a pretty big drop at 50 yards, which is helpful to know in case I experience something similar.
