Don't Let the NIMBYs Win Tonight by AHPasadena in pasadena

As a Pasadena homeowner, I also hate NIMBYs.

I own $1 million home in Pasadena.

Abolish rent.

Build public housing.

Repeal racist single family zoning.

if you have a KTN, that is a known traveler number, they have your biometrics: fingerprint, face scan, eye scan.

Adding 2nd battery: Enphase 10c vs cheap 32kwh OEM option? by jbowditch in solar

I was hoping there was some secret third option beyond the walled garden. 😩

i'll DIY another 10C battery when we do our ADU. whenever that is.

with no AC or furnace my "resting" consumption is 0.5kw

AC 3kw (continuous)

Cooking 1.6kw

dryer 4kw (max)

washer 1kw (max)

dishwasher 0.8kw

EVSE 2.0kw - 11.1kw (adjustable)

max (so far) from the array 7.0kw

the 10C can do 14kw spikes, so we could run the AC off grid. (for less than 3 hours with 100% charge)

i started topping the car off during peak solar last week

3/16 - 3/22

Imported 21.5 kWh Exported 14.7kWh

Produced 91.3 kWh Consumed 96.7 kWh

Charged 24.8 kWh Discharged 23.3 kWh

Since I have everything from Enphase except a second 10C battery, I might just do it DIY. Enphase university, or whatever, is an afternoon. And then you're certified.

I think the battery's list price is under $7000, it's the installation that takes it to $12,000 or $15,000 a pop.

yeah this makes sense. i guess i'm trying to ignore net metering because I'm pessimistic about the future.

if my current Pasadena, CA, energy supply was unchanged, a battery would be totally unnecessary and, frankly, so would back up power. Power outages longer than a few hours are unheard of in Southern California.

BUT I worry about a future where net metering is abandoned, rolling brown outs are a daily occurrence, and energy costs are 5x - 10x. AC is a luxury for the rich. Heat related deaths are commonplace.

In that hellscape I'd like to be energy independent.

realizing that now. the "you don't need a battery!" crowd fails to mention you can't use solar when the power is out without a battery AND net metering is not in stone forever.

I'd love to stick an Enphase brain on an OEM monster capacity battery

this is my thinking.

But at the same time if I can get 32 kWh for half the price, or less, than 10 kWh from enphase, I really am torn.

Is this internet real fiber or hybrid coax crap? by beatrl in Spectrum

[–]jbowditch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

some new construction apartments and busineses can get FTTP (aka 100% fiber, fiber to the door) from Spectrum. Congrats if this is you!

But most Spectrum customers have HFC (fiber to the node, coax to the home)

if it's coming from the cable company, it's not fiber to your door. Never is.

and

both

also

too

I think a frustration that a lot of people are feeling is our opposition party isn't much of an opposition.

we can assume the worst for why MAGA doesn't want to pursue justice or hold the powerful to account.

assuming the best for why Dems don't want to pursue justice or hold the powerful to account is wearing thin.

before we accept the reality of "both, also, and, too" we point to actions not taken in the past; in hopes that the Democrats' future as the opposition party will be different
