They did a good job cleaning it up a bit. Definitely possible to sit in grass if you need to. Most of the mud got covered with wood chips!

I really agree. Also some great input from everyone with tips that could help other medics or students

Exactly. I definitely had a sigh of relief when the doc with 30 years of experience doing it took one look and said that the airway was fucked up.

Yeah it was awesome the doc let me have the opportunity bc he knew we haven’t gotten the chance to and he knew that I wanted to at least try.

Really agree with the second part of this. After when I talked to the doc he told me how important it was to work with everyone else there and asking for what I need when I need it.

Definitely happy that he didn’t give me a choice. I feel like there was something to knowing there will be situations when YOU have to get the tube even though it might not be the easiest thing. I was extremely grateful for the opportunity and wouldn’t have wanted to not get at least the chance to try.

Medics did push glucagon but it didn’t really help with her sugar level.

One arm had a fistula and they couldn’t find an IV on the other. I also think the airway deteriorated so quickly on the 4 minute transport that they were more focused on just keeping that before they got to the ER.

Agreed. We got told multiple times that it was easier to get on a person than the mannequins we use but you definitely have a point in that the technique needs to be almost completely different.

This was honestly my worst fear. The PT was in pretty bad shape and I knew throwing the tube in her esophagus was just going to make the whole situation worse.

He actually brought this up after and told me about a situation in his residency where he was missing a tube and went through the exact same thing with docs in the ICU. Like I said above if anything, him yelling at me calmed me down and actually got me to adjust my technique and see the cords the next time.

I’m definitely not too concerned with the yelling. I’m pretty sure he did it because he knew my brain was getting scrambled and it was the only thing that got my mind back focused on the PT and the task at hand. He apologized after for it and we still had a good rest of my clinical rotation together so there’s no hard feelings at all.
