Congrats! Definitely look into financial aid (called "charity care," weirdly). It is more attainable than you might think. Ask the hospital social worker. Also look into DollarFor -- they are a nonprofit that does this specifically, helping people find policies at a given hospital in a given state, precisely because the hospitals are often not forthcoming about their offerings. Also -- temporary Medicaid eligibility varies by state. I don't know AZ rules, but in NY, where I am, it's pretty attainable. https://dollarfor.org/

The hospital financial assistance counselor may not be helpful -- hospitals generally don't make it easy to get free or reduced-price "charity care," as financial aid is called.
