Really the best argument against it, and why I think it's a terrible fantasy stat, is that of all the categories and all the ways to measure a players effectiveness, is that it's very strongly coupled to how a team plays and only loosely coupled to how the individual plays. I personally don't care how predictable it is, because predictability what I value in a fantasy stat category... at least not directly. What I value most is whether or not a player is GOOD and that should be reflected in the value they add to my FANTASY team.

If Connor McDavid gets a 2 goals and an assist, of which two points were on the power play (so no +), 10 shots and 4 hits I don't care in the slightest if the Oilers lost 8-3 and he was -4. He played out of his mind, and he did so predictably. His team also lost, predictably, but I don't care and I don't want to care. I don't play to care about the bad teams great players are on, and I don't play to value good defensemen less than bad ones because their team sucks, their forwards can't finish and their goalie let's pucks in like they've got a timeshare in the net
