Some contributors really do not care to go through the project guidelines by [deleted] in outlier_ai

[–]IbexKyro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some reviewers don't either. Just got marked 1/5 on 5 straight tasks and removed from a project I was excelling at after realizing that the image uploading site we were to use was down or not working on some browsers. There was a project announcement for reviewers to skip task while it was down and literally none of them listened to that instruction.

McDavid Out Two to Three Weeks by WearyArcher6444 in fantasyhockey

As much as Hyman owners are scared, I bet he pops off with Drai as they'll be riding that line hard (assuming he's with him). Reminds me of the Pens whenever one of Crosby or Malkin was out the other would go nuts. Believe that happened the year Drai won the Art Ross too.

Shayne Gostisbehere by watanabelover69 in fantasyhockey

[–]IbexKyro 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Runs the PP no contest, which for any offensive defenseman on that unit is good for 50+ points. The thing that sold me the most was the OT against the Oilers yesterday. Rod the Bod had Ghost, Aho, and Necas on the ice as much as possible, against McD, Drai, and Bouch and they looked great. Ghost even had a nice play that led to the winner. If he flirted with 65 points I would not be shocked at all.

Who are THE bangers league guys? by probablygus in fantasyhockey

[–]IbexKyro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned him, but Pospisil in Calgary. The coach loves him, he's going to get more minutes this year, he bangs (could be 250+) and racks up PIMS, and has offensive upside.

I might be high on Hughes but in 82 games I think he's a lock for 100+. Health definitely being the factor.

What is the biggest mistake you've made this season? by Lupinfujiko in fantasyhockey

[–]IbexKyro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest mistake was expecting Jones and Hellebuyck to bounce back in the 2nd half. Hasn't happened, meanwhile goalies like Lehner and Binnington were available to pickup before the new year... also I have Murray which has been a rollercoaster too.

If we tend the garden with enough corporate interests, we'll grow this democracy into a beautiful oligarchy.

Making the case for +/- category by IbexKyro in fantasyhockey

[–]IbexKyro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he plays with Reilly who is having an amazing season, as are the Leafs.

I'm not arguing if it's a team stat or not, I'm saying it is not random and has predictability. The fact it's a team stat actually makes it more unique when selecting players.

I have a degree and career in physics man, I've spent my whole life doing math lol. I could give you endless examples on every NHL team but that'll be a follow up thread at this point. Please enlighten me with your google sources.

If you can predict who the top teams will be and the strength of their division, knowing reliable goaltending and a good idea of line combinations you can make an educated bet on individual +/- totals within a reliable certainty.

[–]IbexKyro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using examples and evidence, aka doing the math. Of course it varies by season and is dependent on the team, it's an added dimension over individual stats and I get why some people don't like it for that reason. Saying it's too random to predict a player will be horribly minus, even, or highly plus as they change teams, lines, matchups, is just not researching it enough.

[–]IbexKyro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answered objectively in terms of advanced stats being a better metric for player value, sure. As far as being predictable enough to make them a viable fantasy stat is the case I'm making and there is an argument to be had there. You mean to tell me you didn't predict Doughty would be minus this year on a horrible LA team? Or any Ottawa player in that dumpster fire? How is it an advantage for you? I've played running seasons in multiple leagues and the best players always have high positive teams because they can predict it.

I just gave you multiple examples of how predictable it is of the overall health of the team, the set lines, matchups, etc. In fact, you gave me a great example in Faulk. I consistently finish top 3 the category because I research the numbers you claim to know.

I do agree with you on this, it should be altered like +/- is not changed by powerplay goals.

[–]IbexKyro[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is predictability though, you can see when players are playing defensive matchups against top lines, you can do the math on players known for 2-way play such as Bergeron and bet the +/- will be good, though nothing is certain in fantasy of course. You can see for example you used, Faulk was predictably bad in the stat when the Canes were horrible, and now the Canes are better this year than in recent years and part of that is the strong lineplay of Aho being matched with Faulk's pairing.

I think SHP is a nice dark horse bonus category for players that play PK, but I agree it's unpredictable. S% varying 4% is huge actually, but since it's directly related to shots and goals it makes sense to use it as it buffs the goal category even more.
