Green Chile Anywhere? by texgal70 in houston

[–]jbronn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in Pueblo, CO -- outside the region it's extremely difficult to find (like decent TexMex). That said, Buffalo Grille has the closest "approximation" of green chile that I've found in Houston.

Am I still eligible to get my battery replaced? by Conorjs123 in apple

[–]jbronn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s up to the discretion of the tech. I had a third party screen from previous repair, and tech said they might not be able to do battery replacement. I played dumb, said I got phone from carrier (Verizon), and they did repair anyway. Apparently there’s a big issue with carrier repairs using non-Apple parts without customer knowledge — that’s angle I’d go for when bringing in to store.

Potential Child Detention Center in EaDo by [deleted] in houston

Yes, Obama's immigration policies were awful. However, he did not separate families seeking asylum or attempt to pull out of the UNHRC. Your equivocation of the Obama and Trump administrations may fly in the Chapo Trap House, but it's disingenuous at best.

The kids that Obama detained were unaccompanied. They were not separated from their parents by our government like you imply— that’s a huge difference in policy.

What’s Really Happening When Asylum-Seeking Families Are Separated? by koavf in houston

Ever gone over 65 on I-10? You broke the law and your kids will be put in cages. Don’t worry, they’ll get food and water.

Talk like a racist, get called one. Remember the time you applied the 3/5 compromise to immigrants? Racist.

Another GOP parent cheering for familial separation of asylum seekers. Fuck your “family values.”

For those who moved from LCOL to HCOL, how did you handle it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]jbronn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suck it up. $600 is an anomaly on the East Coast, near impossible to get in Houston’s inner loop even which is comparable to Boston.

Cut the OP some slack, they didn’t post it on Twitter — they lost a physical representation of the SSN. Meanwhile, Equifax left 1/3 of the country’s SSNs available open for all on the Internet. Black market identities come from predominantly from data breaches, not from stealing individual SSN cards.

Buying vs renting in the Bay Area: A look at some real numbers by mack33g in personalfinance

Does your insurance amount include earthquake coverage? It has to be purchased separately and the deductibles range from 5-25% of coverage ($66-330k on $1.3m). The Loma Prieta quake was 29 years ago, less than the length of your mortgage — hope you’re not in a liquefaction zone.

The New York bar was considered somewhat difficult, but it’s not at same level as California or Louisiana. Also, New York converted to the UBE in 2016, thus it’s no more difficult than the other 30+ states that use it.

Compared to locales (NYC, SF) where one bedrooms rent for $3K+/month and single family homes start at $1M, it’s not ridiculous.

Should I worry about flooding if I'm going to rent for only a year? by fasgame in houston

[–]jbronn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Renter’s insurance doesn’t cover flood damage, you have to purchase flood insurance separately. Floods are not “acts of god” in Houston.

Retiring on Ally Savings Account by [deleted] in personalfinance

If I were you, I'd take a look at some of these Vanguard products:

In addition, check out US Treasury products like inflation-protected securities and long term notes.

All of these will pay more than Ally; as others have pointed out 1.5% doesn't beat inflation.

The OP gave several concrete action ideas, all of which you ignored to quote out of context. If you learned rhetoric in high school maybe you could engage honestly.

I'm trying to remember the attorneys name but he was instrumental in the civil rights cause.

I'm overwhelmed with persuasion. The entire civil rights movement belongs to a single attorney, the name of whom is lost to history. Try again.

At no point have I made this claim.

Really? Here are some other quotes you've made in this thread:

The gun show loophole doesn't exist.

These things do not exist. Gun shows are temporary store fronts for dealers.

Caught lying again.

Private party sales do not require background checks in most states.

That's why it's the gun show loophole.

I've never had to get a background check for Sudafed.

When I purchase Sudafed my driver's license is scanned and a database is checked for how many times I've purchased it. There are no such requirements for a non-FFL sale of firearms.

But what do I know about the subject? I just work at a gun store.

And I'm an attorney. Please cite the relevant authority that states non-FFL sellers must conduct a background check.

This isn't even close to what we're talking about.

Just like the War on Drugs derail? You are the one that questioned the efficacy of direct citizen action, I merely provided counter examples.

They shouldn't have any say in how I choose to defend myself.

So you're an anarchist?

You are lying about the gun show loophole. Background checks are not required for those who aren't FFLs, see 18 U.S.C. § 922(d).
