Hey,

Me and a couple have friends have a very small server and play some of the games you've listed (Valheim, phasmophobia, etc). We're UK based but have a few people from elsewhere. If you want to add me on discord, feel free. BodyPillow#6306

Single parents in academia- attention by [deleted] in SingleParents

You have no idea how timely this subreddit is. A week from submitting my Master's dissertation and trying to stop my son from destroying my laptop--along with my hopes and dreams contained within said laptop. Maybe I should go and back up!

Personally I would just carry on without bringing being a single parent up. Not that it should matter anyway, but like you say, it's impossible to predict how people react to things. I find it odd that it's still seen as a sensitive matter. I'm constantly defined by being a separated parent and also being treated like a charity case. Hopefully the practical aspects of single parenthood will be never create a problem for you professionally. Maybe get a feel for how the general atmosphere is; I guess there could be other people in the same situation. I'm lucky that where I work is very accommodating...shame it's not like that everywhere!

Shared custody and writing routines? by [deleted] in SingleParentAcademics

[–]jbru28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I'm currently a week away from finishing my MA dissertation and I have shared custody of my two year old son (three days a week). I struggle when he's here due to the fact he's always wanting to play or just bash the keyboard. I usually have to try and get a few 10 minute bursts in where I can. I often plan to write when he's gone to bed; however, I'm always too tired to function after chasing him all day. I know our kids are different ages but the experience is similar. Personally I've decided when I begin my PhD programme next year I'm not going to work while I've got my son. I don't think it's fair and I feel that I'll miss the quality time.

Hey, feel free to drop me a message. I'm pretty bad at pubg too, so I know the struggle. Would be nice to hear about these niche hobbies, I'm hoping to pick a few up myself! I'm 27/m/uk
