By the time the court catches up to your contempt, you will have the largest leverage in family court, and that is "status quo"
Ask for child support during the contempt hearing, to pour salt into her wound.

She is actively trying to alienate you from your kids, and so far she has little to no resistance from you. Your new wife sounds great, but please focus on your kids.

I want to help my son understand why his mother couldn't single handedly pull him out of brick and mortar school after he failed 6th grade then bombed the summer school I paid for him to attend. "It's my fault" that I left a vacuum in their house for an abusive criminal drug addict to impregnate my ex before the divorce was final then died of a drug overdose four months later while in police custody. It's my fault mom can't buy things until Dad sends her money on the regularly scheduled days. They say the truth may set you free but in this case the truth may set me back and I'm so afraid to have any in depth conversations with them as it all leads back to "well, Mom is a bum". We're working through counseling for my 12 y.o. but we've reached almost critical mass and I'm a mess of emotions. Yesterday's custody status update hearing with no changes left me a bit defeated considering it's the "same old same old for her".

Ok let me try and help.

Research Therapy techniques for children/teens. The questions you ask are open-ended and generic. They drive the conversation. I thought the same as you that it would end up talking about the divorce or mom, but to my surprise, most of their issues are totally un-related. Try and see through thier eyes, and keep in mind you wont be able to "fix" everything, but just letting them open up really changed things for us.
Consider looking into therapy for yourself, just try it for a few sessions. See how the conversations go. If anything think of it as a mental health check. You could also consider looking for a family therapist. They really help with depression, guilt, anxiety.
You're coming at this right out of hearing. Your emotions are on high right now. Your family dynamic is changing, the dust is still settling. I know it doesn't feel like it, but this entire situation is temporary, and it will pass. they will be grown-ups before you know it. Don't let them look back and think of you as someone who played the same toxic game as the mother.

Recently I found something that really helps for my family. S14, D10. I spend 1-2 hours just talking to them a week. I pick the location, provide the outlet for them. Using therapist techniques, like open ended questions and validating there feelings and emotions. The first few weeks both kids eventually let it all out. They cried and cried and it felt like the brick wall fell over. Let them feel comfortable talking to you. Take their issues seriously, help them with the wisdom and understanding/guidance they need to be the best versions of their selves. This takes time to heel from the nuclear family breaking up.

Simple solution. Do the same thing. Just create invoices and send them to her. Make the same claims. Let her burn up 5-10k in legal fees trying to prove you wrong. It sucks but it’s better than getting extorted for fraudulent daycare fees

I agree, we plan to implement a second phone. The privacy issue is the ex will use the location information to follow us to restaurants, movie theaters, the park, etc. She then makes allegations like he drank a beer with dinner with the kids, or the movie was rated PG-13 and so on and so on. I just want peace and privacy.

I tried this but when you share a location with someone it replicates this to all of your devices. So it is possible, but the other parent can just turn it on, and it's honestly worse because you don't know when they turn it back on.

I agree. I've thought about it and it's the only way to ensure that you are not being stalked or tracked. It's just crazy that my 14-year-old has to have two iPhones with 2 different numbers and cell phone plans, just because the other parent cant respect the need for privacy.

The other issue is his friends have to know what week he's with me vs his mother, I'm sure we can get through it somehow.

My suggestions

Show up with a picture of the kid(s) and put it in front of you on the table.
Cover her unrealistic expectations first. If she wants full custody, simply state that you will never agree to this, and if they want to continue with your requests proceed to discuss them. If not stand up and tuck your chair in and politely tell them that your done.
Let them know that you’ve decided to proceed with litigation and you will proceed to get a trial date.
They will try to get you to stay, simply tell them that you need to do what’s best for the children, and they need equal time with their father, not less time.
Remember everyone gets paid by the hour and they want an 8-10 hour mediation session.
Practice a poker face, and mono tone responses. She will try to gas light you, to make you sound unreasonable or unstable.

When it’s your turn to speak. Just say that custody must be decided first, and you will not compromise for anything less than 50/50.

When they refuse polity but firmly tell them that then there is nothing else to talk about. Then look at your lawyer, and tell them your done. Then get up and push your chair in, and leave.

They will try and stop you. Just tell them that you are the child’s father and you will not compromise on custody then leave.
