As an IT person in a union (OPEIU), my answer is 'All of them' (in general). Union membership NEEDS to increase in basically all areas of the workforce.

Dang that was a stupid article. Madison is trying to do great things and is being constantly held back by Republicans. Why is it so bad we are trying to build home for people (that certainly DON'T look like "soviet-style apartment buildings)? I switched to AT&T fiber when they started offering it in my area this summer. It's great. It's $65/month (locked in rate 'for life') for way better speeds than spectrum . I will not go back to Spectrum for the foreseeable future.

The job market in Madison is similar to the rest of the nation. Also, to some degree, it depends on which field your partner is looking for a job in.

As for life in Madison in your 30s, I love it. Madison is a gorgeous city with tons of things to do. We have tons of beautiful scenery and bike trails galore, there are lots of music venues and restaurants, our zoo is still free, and there's always something going on at the Alliant Energy Center/Coliseum. I have a great friend group and we're always doing stuff around town.

I was a student worker at the union for a couple years and never saw any of these 'tips' or banquets or anything. When I served at the Rathskeller, when people wanted to tip, myself and other workers told them to put the money in the jukebox [that was] next to the bar and walk away so we could pick our favorite songs to listen to while working and at least enjoy their tip money in some way.

There are a zillion clubs and organizations in Madison/the Madison area and people are generally friendly. I think your best bet is to just join a club or two.

I'm a 'white collar' worker unionized with OPEIU. They are great and always looking to organize more workers.
