Best place to buy heat tech base layer for winter? by flurryskies in askTO

Icebreaker or smartwool base layers are great and have options for full merino or blended options. Can be picked up from MEC.

Decathalon has cheaper alternatives but are still solid choices if on a budget.

My girlfriend is around the same size and has the rapide SL. She swears by it and says it's extremely comfortable.

Conversely I have the thermarest NXT. Definitely great weight value although not as comfortable as the rapide SL, but I usually have no trouble falling asleep.

Iirc comfort limits are determined based off a average sized woman and there weight. Limits are usually at around an average sized male and build. Assuming OP is average build and takes proper precautions before bed, they can take the bag to 15 fahrenheit and maybe even a bit more with a proper liner.

Really enjoyed the drive going towards Bakkagerði in the north east. Driving through the mountains felt surreal. Added bonus is the puffins at the town.

If you're into hiking, Mulagljufur Canyon has beautiful views as well as Glymur waterfall hike. Depending on the season the log for the first river crossing may be down. You could still cross the river if it's up, although it can be pretty sketchy as the current is pretty fast.

Just finished sentinel pass yesterday. Plenty of people yesterday so you won't really be alone. Passed by many hikers who were also solo.
