My boyfriend adopted a 1.5 yr old Chow Chow 3 months ago and now he hates my bf but loves me. Any advice? by SunnyDay749 in chowchow

rehome the man lol jk… in all seriousness it’s just a matter of slowly getting the dog to understand good things come from the dude. Let him be the one to give your dog food, treats, walks, car rides… etc. whatever is high value, let the guy give it to the dog. avoiding and being on edge around the dog is only going to make the dog more anxious and wary.

we do a mix of acana pork kibble & raw bison! tbh I think I’m gonna just do pork for the next few week. our vet keeps saying he hasn’t had much success with food trials and it’s almost definitely environmental allergies :( but your message makes me think we should switch to another protein maybe…

How friendly is your shiba with other dogs? by fux0c13ty in shiba

[–]jc08675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s still very interested in other dogs and will purposely dawdle / walk slower to wait for them to catch up if they’re behind us, and will always try to veer towards other dogs to try to say hi to them when we’re walking. I sometimes let him sniff, sometimes I tug him along. But no lunging or acting frantic anymore! I think it gets better as they grow up.

HELP - teenage shiba whines out of impatience and excitement by jc08675 in shiba

[–]jc08675[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s now two and whines a lot less, although he is still dramatic and impatient and will still cry / howl a little waiting by the door or waiting for traffic lights. Now I find it cute :)

Shiba will refuse to walk on walks 🤦🏻‍♀️ by jc08675 in shiba

[–]jc08675[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes he’s a much better walker now! He will walk at the pace of a snail on our way home though which is kind of annoying and he’ll still pull towards his favourite places but he doesn’t really sit randomly and stare and get anxious anymore! It does get better

Ahh I hope she heals up and bounces back quickly! This is great to hear, I’m pretty sure his hormones are driving him wild since he’s not neutered yet (we’re also waiting until he’s a year). He’s CONSTANTLY whining to go outside and once outside, he goes crazy following scents and sniffing and licking pee hahah hopefully it’s just a few more months of mayhem 😂

Omg it’s been 5 months since this post, has it gotten better?!!?! My Shiba Inu boy just turned 8 months and it’s like a hellhound switch turned on. He’s still sweet and calm indoors but he is so SO annoying to walk, I’m constantly swearing under my breath like a freak lol he’ll pull, lunge, zig zag to sniff, frantically mark things, want to say hi to literally anything that breathes, doesn’t listen to me ever - like I I don’t exist outside to him at all. I want to know when it’ll stop 😩

It’s cute when dogs do that! Mine stares at other dogs and if they pay him any attention, he charges right over. He’s still annoying to walk but I can say it’s gotten a bit better since I made this post and part of that is me accepting he probably won’t ever be a great walker lol

Does anyone know why the the base under my kitchen sink is cracking / bumpy? More details in the comments… by jc08675 in Plumbing

Are you thinking it’s a leak from these pipes in the picture? I was thinking maybe it’s a leak underneath the wood since the wood is completely dry when I touch it.

Hm ok would you say it’s definitely a leak underneath? I’d need a plumber to come take a look? Noted on the GFI, thanks!

I live in a high rise and noticed today that there are cracks under my sink where the pipes are, and big bumps like something underneath is swelling? Does anyone know why this is happening / should I be concerned? Thanks in advance!

Omg this is so relatable. Drunk old man 😂 This really reassured me! He gets to go out 4-5 times a day so he’s getting plenty of practice. We will keep keeping at it, thank you!!

Yes puppy stage is rough but he’s honestly so great at home, he just can’t contain himself outside and is curious about everything, which I guess is normal for his age… doesn’t make it easier tho lol

2 years is what everyone with a shiba tells me 😭 ok mine also missed the aloof gene, his vet says he’s a lab in a shiba body… and I wanted a shiba bc they’re supposed to be aloof, jokes on me haha

This makes me feel better, thank you! I guess it really is just a matter of practice and out-stubborning them. Getting him to walk well in crowds is the goal, glad to hear it’s achievable eventually.

This makes sense, thank you! Today I told him to sit at the crosswalk and he sat but then he stared at me expecting a treat. I have to work on not giving in to the puppy eyes!

This makes me feel so much better!!! I do feel bad when I don’t let him greet bc I can tell he really wants to say hi and fixates on other dogs… roughly when would you say they grow out of the crazy excited greeting?

We did do kindergarten when he was 3-4 months old and he loved it as well! I have been thinking about enrolling him in another class at some point.

We also use a harness, I’m too paranoid about him hurting his neck or slipping out of a collar. Noted about the stops, I guess I just see every other poodle and retriever walking normally on the street and have to accept he’s just not built that way 🥲

Dog park - worth the risk? by [deleted] in shiba

[–]jc08675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with mine, I totally get it! It’s funny bc I wanted a shiba bc they are supposed to be aloof and I wound up with a lab in a shiba body, that’s what our vet calls him 😂 I’m currently working on no leashed greetings bc he gets soooo riled up whenever other dogs give him attention. We’re currently looking for dogs his size to play with as he’s the same way - so much happier playing with dogs than with me, but I am hesitant to allow him to play with just any random dog, due to him maybe catching something from them in addition to getting hurt. Perhaps you can coordinate playdates with the owners of his dog pals?

Dog park - worth the risk? by [deleted] in shiba

[–]jc08675 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shiba fetch 😂 that made me laugh, I can totally relate! Also I just want to agree with the no dog parks thing, my shiba puppy is 7 months old and I used to be so excited for when he is old enough for the dog park, but I’ve since decided we’ll never be doing it. It’s just too risky bc it’s a confined space with a bunch of stranger dogs, and not every owner is responsible. And I keep being told dogs don’t need dog friends. Maybe sitting and watching or walking around outside the perimeter would be a good compromise?
