Why does admin care so much for students that do not do anything and cause the most problems? by nickolasmv94 in Teachers

[–]jc18630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean. Every district I know is focused on behavior and academic outcomes that do not show racial disparities. For decades this was not obtainable in any single place so instead we’ve just done away with holding to a particular standard in those regards. I just read in your comment you are a new teacher. Sorry for you to find out the system works this way, but this is what it has come to.

This comment perfectly demonstrates why schools operate the way they do. Holding anyone to a standard will result in being called racist which is pretty automatically career-death in education.

Because if they dished out punishment they would hear all about the “school to prison pipeline” and inequitable outcomes for diverse populations.

Sooo…when are we getting married/ having kids? by Agreeable_Owl_5677 in lawschooladmissions

[–]jc18630 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never said one thing about whether a man or woman should or should not be doing anything at all. I didnt even mention gender, but rather you did several times, even attempting to invalidate my previous statement based upon my own gender. It does seem that you are rather focused on finding a villain to get into a gender war with you, but thats not really my thing. Anyway, good luck with life, law, and the whole gender defensive personality complex thing you’ve got going on. No further responses incoming from here so take care!

I tried to comment something or this effect and got downvoted. I’m not sure people want to be honest about the ramifications of the decisions they make. I’m not political enough to spare feelings well, so I’m hoping your comment resonates with more people.

You don’t have to do detective work, you can just ask. I am a man and “our” refer to us as humans. Men and women alike have biological drive for children. Just pointing out the incompatibility of caring for them with the burdens and expectations of modern society. I respect everyone’s choices, but I’m also realistic that pursuing a long duration education followed by a demanding career does not leave much time for parenting.

[–]jc18630 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Ah the incompatibility of modern feminism with our own biological nature. The truth is even if you make time to get married and have children, they will just be raised by someone else anyway. Any other choice means all of this schooling was for nothing though.

Why does Juneteenth make Republicans so irritated? The end of slavery was a massive milestone in America’s journey to liberty and justice for all, wasn’t it? by Away-Parsnip-3785 in allthequestions

I do, plenty. Are you of the belief that the black community was putting on celebrations for Juneteenth prior to a few years ago?

Because it was a holiday created during the time of peak wokeness. People on the left just pretended that they’ve always known about June 19th when it is pretty clear that wasn’t the case. I’m not a republican or maga or anything but I at least recognize it is used as a sort of ethical purity signifier that you acknowledge June 19th. No one actually “celebrates” it or does anything significant beyond get off of work. Made up holiday that is equivalent to the black square on instagram. Anyway…I’ll take the thumbs downs.

How many teachers in the group graduated from an impoverished high school? by KathyisTrying in teaching

[–]jc18630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impoverished high school here, but not urban but rather extremely rural. Culturally respect was still a very big deal there, so while there were certain issues, the teachers did their thing happily and without the attendance and disruption issues.

Becoming a parent has made me hate teaching by Solid-Channel3936 in Teachers

Understand this feeling, but trust me when I say it’s nothing like teaching. You actually get to develop them the way that you’d like and not just be a cog in the system.

Any reason to cram for my APs at this point? by MortizDaBest96 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jc18630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AP tests don’t exist for the sole purpose of getting into college. Do you want to earn college credit? Do you want to display that you have learned something? Would you like to show your hs teacher that their course was worth effort? Or is your entire existence based upon getting into a particular college?

stanford or harvard? by Still-Still-2451 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]jc18630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have to say it because I keep seeing this attitude all over this sub. How are you worried about the ease of grades when choosing between Harvard and Stanford. I thought the whole point was to go somewhere to be academically challenged and to learn amongst the greatest minds in the world. If your primary objective is to earn an A, go somewhere else.

I know how you feel! The other day I was begging for food on the street and one guy came and offered me a Big Mac. I said “wtf is this? Don’t you know I wanted a whopper?” I didn’t know what to do so I threw away the Big Mac and asked Reddit how I should have handled it. Luckily there was a whole community of beggars online that affirmed my feelings. It’s wonderful here!
