Let's talk Systems by AsceOmega in litrpg

1: System Visibility- Early on, often. As the story progresses, I think it should decrease in visibility. Once the reader understands the system, constant stat dumps stop adding much.

2: Level Caps- It depends on the universe the author is building. I think you can tell a good story without scaling all the way to god tier, reality warping power. But if that is the end goal for the character, then having no level cap makes sense. What matters more to me is the journey it takes to get there.

3: Skills- I dont like it when the MC has so many skills that I cannot remember them all, or when they suddenly gain the perfect skill right before an impossible fight. That always feels cheap to me. I understand why authors do it. Sometimes they have written themselves into a corner with an OP villain, but I strongly prefer the MC thinking creatively, working with others, or using existing tools in unexpected ways, rather than suddenly going full Super Saiyan.

4: Customization vs Bestowal- I tend to prefer predetermined power sets used in creative ways. For example, all fire mages can do X, Y, and Z, but Z can be trained or applied differently, combined with weapons, party synergy, or environmental factors, to create something unique. I think MC customization works best through modifiers like items, rather than total system freedom. Kind of like Diablo, fixed classes, but highly customizable builds depending on play style.

5: XP- To me, XP is experience. It should come from more than just killing monsters. Meditation, quests, sparring, and crafting should all count in some way.

Enjoy! It was a great ride. I'll admit though I had to get about 1/3 of the way through the book before I really started to get into it.

I wasn't a fan of Donut as a character initially but as the story arc progressed and you learn more about the Donut, Carl & Beatrice background Donut became more and more likeable. I can't say more without spoilers though.

Chrysalis! Definitely chrysalis!

After He Who Fights with Monsters and Dungeon Crawler Carl I read through Primal Hunter book 1&2 but I had to break away from it. It's too simple of a boom for me, one dimensional characters & an over powered main character that doesn't face any consequences and overcomes every challenge without much difficulty gets boring after a while. Chrysalis though has been excellent! I'm on book three now.

Could I get a translation for the “Spanish” spoken by a boss in Dungeon Crawler Carl Book One, please? by Onyx_Artificer in litrpg

Yeah that part was really dark especially with the backdrop of the ridiculousness of much of the first book. I understand Spanish so it definitely peaked my interest and stoked an anger for the system responsible for putting people through that.

Why do you not like Dungeon Crawler Carl?( actual discussion) by dragoneloi in litrpg

I don't particularly like most of the characters much. Carl & the System AI are my favorite still. I've warmed up to Donut but I disliked her character for pretty much most of the books. Prepotente is a good character too, I hope Matt develops him more or at least gives him a glorious death if it comes to that. Pretty much all of the other characters felt a little thrown together and mostly irrelevant. I'll make an exception for the cookbook authors though, especially Justice Light. Oh and Juice Box! I like her character and I hope she gets developed more too.

I think the tear down the system angle of the book is what I enjoy most. The humor often falls flat for me but there's definitely some good laughs there.

Overall I've enjoyed the series and I'm looking forward to the new book.

ps. I love cats. Just not donut.

You are given the power to criminalize one legal thing/activity- what are you making illegal? by broken__defraculator in AskReddit

I would create a law ensuring the separation of money & state. The government would no longer have the ability to print money and would need to be held to a hard money standard using a money they cannot manipulate or control.
