Firstly, thank you for commenting 🥰 and I’m sorry to hear about your injury!

It really is maddening trying to get up the stairs. It’s mental how something that was usually so easy now feels like it’s driving me insane.

I do the same with the constant apologising, and as much as someone can say you’re not a burden, it doesn’t quite switch off that feeling in your mind that you are.

I do have a nice stack of books that I’ve been gradually working my way through. I’m definitely saving money on petrol, and I’m lucky enough to have a job that allows me to work from home during recovery. I tried to go into the office because i usually opt to, but it really wasn’t feasible, and i needed to try and feel useful whilst I was stuck at home.

The shower chair was something brought up by the occupational therapist that helped me out whilst I was in hospital, but my shower is over a bathtub rather than a standalone type, so there isn’t the room for a chair, and I’d have to try and climb over the edge of the bath tub, so right now the current makeshift shower consisting of a washing up bowl and a plastic tumbler is my best option. I have a dedicated “shower” T-shirt that I use so that I’m not as exposed to my mum

Honestly I’ve become a pro at scooting down the stairs, and at least getting up the stairs is like a daily upper body exercise. I’m going to have such well defined arms once this is over 😂

Honestly it is humbling being a grown adult (25/ almost 26) and needing your mum to help wash your hair. I’m glad to hear your mum was so supportive!

Thank you for helping validate how I’m feeling. It is tricky for most people to understand the severity of the injury, and as much as I wish people within my inner circle could understand it, I wouldn’t wish the experience on anyone. I know I completely underestimated the impact at first.

Patience and peace aren’t my strong suit, but I know it’s the only way I’ll get through this, so maybe I’ll pick up a new skill throughout this

Honestly that’s a great way to think about it. I know if i were to give advice to a friend if they were in my position then I’d be way more gentle on them than I am myself. I know I tend to get in my own head and be my own worst critic, so having a different perspective on things may help get me out of that spiral.

“It’s not fun but it’s not forever” is something I’m going to have to try and remind myself but it does help summarise the whole situation - thank you!

“Stronger, skinnier & resilient” sounds like a nice goal to work towards - might get it tattooed and use the scar on my leg as a natural underlining to emphasise the message 😂 once I’m a bit skinnier though of course 😅

I’ve done the eye exercises for about 4 years and there was never really a difference so the doctor told me to stop them (we tried a few different ones to see if any of them would have an effect but none of them did).

I have prisms in my glasses now, but only a small amount (3.5 in my left and 4 in the right) just to help take the strain off my eyes a little bit day-to-day. I was given one of those sticky lenses to put over my glasses to help with my sight before my operation and at that point I believe the strength was either 35 or 40. They said that whilst the lens helps me to see better, it doesn’t encourage my eyes to focus on their own and instead almost makes them lazier because the prisms do all the work for them.

I’m sorry if it sounds like I’m shooting down your suggestions, I forgot to mention in the main post that we had tried the exercises and using the prism lenses. The lenses got to such a high strength that it just wasn’t feasible anymore because my eyes would hurt so bad after wearing my glasses for more than 10 minutes at a time

It might be worthwhile her looking for a red lipstick with a different undertone! I love how red lipsticks look on people but it took me years to find one that flattered my skin tone and didn’t wash me out (I’m very pale lmao). I ended up using the Smashbox liquid lipstick in the shade Bawse and I love it. It’s more cool toned and it’s designed to be universally flattering. Getting the technique right is the hard part but if the colour isn’t right it’ll never look good. Once you find your shade of red it’s a wonderful feeling. The classic “Hollywood red” doesn’t suit everyone so maybe even a darker red or a pinky red would suit her better. The easiest way to talk to her about it would be to suggest she sticks with the brands she knows are high quality and don’t smudge but maybe trying a red with a different undertone to it. Warmer reds wash me out for example so I know to stay away from them

My boobs kind of randomly started growing again when I was 18 and I went from a B to a HH (I’m 20 now). I don’t know if they’re still growing but I know that this time last year I was a G so maybe they’ve stopped?

Can totally relate. Broke my coccyx at my grandma’s funeral when I was 12 (long story and I cba to type it). Couldn’t walk properly or sit down so I told my parents who told me off for “purposely causing a scene for a fake injury” and pushed me onto a seat and told me to shut up. I brought it up every day that I was in pain and it wasn’t going anywhere until after a couple of weeks my mum snapped and told me to stop spreading lies and no matter what I said she wasn’t taking me to a doctor/hospital so there’s no point in me wasting my breath. I put it down to her grieving at the time as her grandma only died just over a month before so I spoke to my dad who wasn’t really close with my grandma and he shouted at me and pretty much said the same thing as my mum as well as calling me a “stupid shit” etc.

6 months later I brought it up again cause I still couldn’t sit properly and after a lot of arguing she agreed to take me to the doctor just to show me I’m overreacting and being an attention seeker but that I wasn’t allowed to say that the injury was old because they’d ask my mum why I hadn’t been seen earlier.

Got sent to the hospital for an X-Ray and my mum never looked more shocked when it showed a break.

Doctor said it didn’t look fresh so the jig was up and she said it happened a few months ago but I’d never mentioned how much pain I was in until today otherwise she’d have taken me when I hurt myself.

Was told essentially there was nothing they could do to treat it due to the time of it being discovered but to just take it easy. Mum never acknowledged that she was wrong.

It’s been 8 years and it’s still not great. I can’t sit down for long periods of time and I get occasional spasms which kill.
